1998 Hummer H1
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This green 1998 H1 wagon, came off of the same assembly line as the AM General humvee. The 1998 Hummer H1 was the last year where AM general had knocked all of the bugs out of hummers before moving into the ABS brake system with TT4 in 1999. ABS brakes with TT4 are nice, but the maintenance and cost for repairs can range anywhere from approx. $260.00 for the half shaft sensor, to a few k’s for the ABS controller and or computer system for the TT4/ABS systems. The 98 hummer H1's are fairly easy to work on at home. These trucks are capable of fording 30” of water, climbing over rocks, logs, and across sand, 2.5 ft of snow, climbing steep hills, going thru deep mud, you name it. It will get there and back and in style. I am the second owner of this 1998 hummer H1. When I purchased the truck about four years ago, it had 41,000 miles on it. Since then I have driven about 32,000 more miles which are mostly highway miles. I have done a car fax on this truck and it shows this vehicle to be clean and without any accidents, and I have not had any while being the proud owner.
This 98 hummer H1 wagon comes with, 6.5 litre turbo diesel engine, 4L80E heavy duty transmission Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS)
Under body protection for the driveline and differentials,
Rocker panel protect both left & right sides,
Factory Warn winch with controller Upgraded to heavy duty factory coil springs which will allow up to 40” tires Upgraded HVAC heat & air system Under the hood, I have replaced the air compressor, replaced and relocated for easy access the PMD/FSD, and installed a head cooling kit which allows the engine to run much cooler, which provides longevity to the motor. Four 37”x12.5”x16.5” BF Monsoon AM/FM cassette with CD changer,
Premium cloth seats,
Rear view mirror with both compass and outside temp readings,
Heated windshield,
Power windows,
Power door locks with remote programmer,
Cruise control,
Knee space saver for the front passenger side,
Rear load barrier During the time I have owned this H1 I have replaced all upper & lower ball joint, Steering box, adding the 4th bolt to it for strength, tie rod assemblies, pitman & idler arms, replaced front & rear springs giving this truck added lift for 40” tires, and a new wagon roof assembly which was sealed and has no leaks. After the roof assembly was completed, the truck was completely refinished and painted for a uniform finish, using the factory paint code but with the darkest of the varations. There were several paint variations with the factory paint code. 4 coats of clear coat were applied for durability and a high gloss finish. The roof assembly was replaced due to what I call as severe rust issues. The roof assembly had to be replaced whether I was keeping the truck or not so please understand that the replacement project was something that had to be done at one time or another. Understand that hummer H1 wagons have an aluminum body, but the roof assembly is steel. Same with the 4 man hard top. Because of these "dissimilar metals" coming in contact with each other, via nuts & bolts, there is always the possibility of some sort of rust on the H1 wagons and 4 man hard tops. When the roof replacement was being performed, I pain stakingly took every precaution in preparations to insure a longer life span with he replacement roof. Every place where the roof assembly would come in contact with the body, plastic coating was applied. Ie, the bottom roof assembly mount points, fend mounting points, all nuts, washers, spacers, and bolts. When the roof assembly was finished, more plastic coating was applied inside the wagon area for added protection. Tiger Seal was applied and used along with the factory seals to give this truck an even more water tight seal for protection. There is a small dent to note on the rear passenger side which not too noticable but should be mentioned. There is a "parts and service" CD manual that I used for regular 3000 mile service, and repairs, which is included. This truck has been off road before, and it truely does what no other off road vehicle can do off road. It is truely one fun machine, and runs very strong and has been very reliable.
