Cuts fast!
This is my first, and probably only, plasma cutter, so I can't really compare it to other models. I did a fair amount of research before I bought this one, and felt it was the best value. It cuts 3/8" plate really smooth and fast. The drag tip makes it easy to get a good cut, especially if you use a guide. It interferes with visibility on free hand cuts, but there are other nozzles and shields available for that. I love this machine. It is easy to use out of the box. I'd never used one before, but my very first cuts were faster and smoother than my oxy-fuel set up. Admittedly, I'm not the best with a torch, but this thing is so easy to use, my torch will be for brazing and heating mostly, now.This is my first, and probably only, plasma cutter, so I can't really compare it to other models. Hypertherm 45XP - Fantastic Plasma Cutter
This Hypertherm 45XP is the first plasma cutter I have owned so I am honest to say I could not compare it to another. However, I can hardly believe what it can do. I have used it now for 2 months and it cuts my metal projects so fast and accurately often straight cuts are better than my delta band saw and so much faster. The torch feels like top quality compared to the imports like at Harbor F, but they are much less expensive and could be good for occasional use, I do not disparage them necessarily. But the ability to quickly cut curves and circles in thick metal is the game changer with plasma. I cut a good quantity of good stock when I first got it just in amazement of it and had to make a run to get more steel. It is true, you don't know how you did without something once you get it ... This is really a great machine cuts are clean and pretty much plug and play. My old plasma cutter was hard to sale so I recommend getting the best first. When they had a no interest promo I jumped on it. And I’m glad I did.

Whoda thunk...
I hated to buy another Hypertherm 45, but, the old one cost as much to fix as a new one to buy. Sooo, I bought this one. The torch was different than the old one so I thought all my consumables for the old 45 were useless. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the old torch would plug into the new power unit. To find that planned obsolescence wasn't part of their program is a real treat. Quite uncommon. Hats off to Hypertherm for that! Hopefully it's longevity will be as impressive.I hated to buy another Hypertherm 45, but, the old one cost as much to fix as a new one to buy. Sooo, I bought this one.
