POTENTIAL BIDDERS…PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE THE MEANS TO PAY FOR AND HAVE INVESTIGATED REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS AND SHIPPING COST PRIOR TO BIDDING!!! I HAVE BEEN STIFFED TWICE BY NON PAYING BIDDERS. According to the local DMV Office and as stated on the California DMV web page this vehical is SMOG Exempt. It does not need to have a SMOG inspection nor does it need any modifications done to be SMOG legal. PLEASE check this out for yourself PRIOR TO BIDDING. For sale is 1971 Jeepster Commando. The is not a show truck. This is not a hard core rock crawler. This is basic, pretty much stock, 38 year old Jeepster. Engine/Drive train: Original 225 V-6 Buick Odd fire engine, Original 3 speed transmission and transfer case. I have no idea how many miles are on this Jeepster. Replaced original clutch with a Center force clutch, taller throw-out bearing and new cable, less than 3,000 miles ago. The drive train leaks a little from both the engine and transmission. It shifts easy, 4 wheel drive works well and drum brakes stop fine, for drum brakes. Has dual exhaust. Starts and runs good. I drive it around town several times a week. I also have an additional 3 speed transmission that goes with it. Body/Interior: Body was rough when I got it. Removed the forward floor and replaced with 3/16 aluminum plate. The plate is bolted into through good metal. It can left or removed and new floor welded in, if you know how to do that, I didn’t. It has some rust holes in the back corners but where the back seat would sit appears to be pretty solid. It does not have a back seat. The front seats are in bad shape. There has been some very poor fiberglass work done on the passenger side rocker panel. The exterior body is not great but there are not any gapping holes. All glass is intact, no key locks, but door handles latch fine. It has a factory option tire rack. All 5 tires are 31x10.5 with lots of tread left and all are on matching steel rims. I bought the steel rims are from summit racing and they are only a few years old. Couple of other things I thought off. I replaced the heater core and the card board glove box is gone. There are a few places that offer plastic after market ones. The previous owner tried to install some type of roof lining and there is hardened glue residue inside of top (picture). Electrical: The wiring looks like a rat, on crack, did it, but almost everything works. All the lights, except back-up, work. There are separate switches for head and parking. Instrument lights work, even the little one over the instrument switches. Wiper motor works when you get the wiring right. Previous owner added after market gauges for temp, oil pressure, AMP and fuel (fuel gauge doesn’t work consistently). What this is not, is a show car, a daily driver or hard core off roader. It is a basic neat looking old Jeepster that needs some one that has the time and money to make it better. Even in its current condition I get comments about it, positive. Just moved to CA and don't have the time or money to fix it up. It's going to really bum my son out to let it go. The Jeepster still has NC registration and the title is in my hand and clear. Extras: Original bumpers, steering wheel, front window seal and various other small parts. Also have an extra set of 4 - 15x10" rims. If you have any questions please contact me through eBay e-mail, I check it a couple times a day. I have more pictures or if you would like to something specific let me know. The Jeepster is also listed for sale on a couple of other 4x4 web sites and locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early should I receive an offer equal to, or greater than, the ebay buy it now. On Nov-02-09 at 19:49:14 PST, seller added the following information: Need to mention that the emergency brake does not work. The cable from the handle to the yoke is broke. The cables from the yoke to the tires are fine and brakes actuate. Trying to fine a cable to fix. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
