1963 Studebaker Lark Regal 3 speed Overdrive, 259 cu. in. V8, heater, windshield washer. Serial # 63V 24433 79352 miles
Be sure and follow the more pictures link at the end of my description ! As some of you may know, I find nice Studebakers around the country, fix them up and find new homes for them on Ebay. I bought this nice Lark in California from a gal that had owned it for a few years. It's basically a well maintained 79,000 mile original car with a repaint in the factory color. Other then that, the car appears to be a survivor with a nice original interior, right down to the rubber floor mat. I had a friend drive it to his home in Woodland Ca. to prep for ebay and we'll assist with shipping from there.
The car is your basic Studebaker, with only the V8 engine, overdrive transmission, and windshield washer options, not even a radio. When we got the car, it had a nasty set of "Pep Boys" wire wheel covers that we replaced with a nice Studebaker set. The car was a daily driver, so other then the wheel covers, detailing and some tuning, we had to do very little. We found no rust on the body, and other than a dent the size of a quarter in the deck lid, the body is very straight. The paint is better than presentable, but not flawless with some minor chips and the like that are too small to see in the pictures. I'd call the car a 10 footer, you have to get closer to see any flaws. the chrome and stainless is nice.
The car runs, drives and stops fine, but as with any 45 year old car, a bumper to bumper check should be done before heading on a long trip. The engine starts right up, no unusual noises or leaks. The transmission shifts fine, and the overdrive engages automatically as it should. The battery in nearly new, as are the battery cables. The wiring harness is in excellent shape as are the cooling system, belts and hoses.
The car could use a $10.00 reproduction turn signal knob and the seats need a good cleaning. The factory floor mat is a bit worn in a spot, but not bad at all. (see detail pictures at link down lower) All the gages, lights and the rest work just as they should.
Here's my friends impressions of the car after driving and working on her: "This little sedan is a great car, although its not flashy like a Daytona hardtop, this type of car was the bread and butter of Studebaker family cars. The V8 runs well and the 3 speed with the overdrive is a joy to drive. The transmission shifts great, and the overdrive engages properly. The V8 has a lot of pep and it should get over 20 miles per gallon on the highway. This car is very solid with the doors, hood and trunk all opening and closing nicely. There do not seem to be any rattles or shakes as it drives. The paint is an older repaint, the shine came through with some buffing and it looks pretty nice as is. The chrome is decent with little pitting. The stainless trim is in very good condition. As a driver, this car is great. The interior is in good shape, with one small crack on the dash pad near the speaker. A dash pad that nice on a 63 is unusual. This car is equipped with a Vanity in the glove box. As you can see in the pictures, it drops down to provide a tray for your drinks, (not for use while driving), and a makeup mirror for the ladies. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this car as a driver for it's low reserve." This is basically a unmolested, unrestored, but well maintained survivor. Other then the one repaint, it's pretty much as build some 45 years ago. It's in far above average shape, but not a trailer queen. My reserve is well under both book and current market price for a Lark in this condition. More and bigger pictures Here NADA book values.
