FOR SALE RED 1970 MGB GT 104,000 MILES

RARE SPLIT BUMPER

I am the second owner of this car. I bought this in 1973 with 32,000 miles.

This was my daily driver for a lot of years. I drove it to class everyday, up to Montreal, hauled fire wood, stuffed 6 people in it and had a few of the those “oops we ran out of gas” dates. I was a salesman in the late 70's & early 80's it was my ride to my appointments.

I have not driven this in 2 years. I put the charger to the battery for a few hours. Got in it and the sucker started right up! I do have to say that no matter what time of year or weather this always started right up.

Sometime in 1979 the MG needed a valve job, I was offered a motor and tranny from a 1974 MGB with 24,000 miles. So with 65,000 mile on the car I put in the motor, and kept that motor and tranny that came out its been in a warehouse on a pallet.

This has the following ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT:

Dual carburetors, air cleaners,  Fenders, aluminum hood, rear hatch, rear window with electric defroster, all the chrome around the front & rear windows, driver & passenger side, chrome on doors, around fly windows, rear windows, fender mounted mirror, rear view mirror,  owners manual ( missing cover)

Wire wheels, dashboard (small cut), switch console, original rocker switches, chrome front and split rear bumpers, original passenger seat seam is split on cushion and is repairable, rear seat, replaced the drivers seat from another 1970 so it’s a match, jack, knock off hammer, jack bag but kind of ratty, windshield washer fluid holder.

Six years ago I had some work done on it:

Stripped the paint down to the metal, new metal added in places, new floors, new rocker panels drivers side rocker although replaced has a small dent, re-chromed bumpers,  painted Red with a clear coat, new carpeting, new gas tank, new tires, new brakes, new radiator, new cooling fan, new driver side mirrors, electronic ignition, power antenna, new radio, converted from two 6 volt batteries to one 12 volt. I think the door locks still work.

Here is what it comes with:

The original motor and transmission, the original drivers seat, and a spare back and cushion for front seat, a wooden template for the winged knock offs so you don’t bash the crap out them when you get a flat. Oh and you will get a flat or 2, windshield wipers, extra mirrors, window crank, door pull, pads for pedals, new oil filler cap, oil filter element, dip stick for the transmission, some door trim, 2 headlights & 1 chrome ring, side maker lens, hoses and other crap that I never threw out some new some not.

Here is what it needs or some small problems.

Rear axel seal on right side is leaking into the brake drum causing it to squeal when you stop. So both sides should be replaced.

I tried moving it yesterday, either there is air in the hydraulic line for the clutch or it needs a new slave cylinder I didn’t crawl under it.

The rear window defroster was disconnected for the body work and never reconnected. So not sure it is working.

Third gear syncro, chirps a little when up shifting.

There was from the day I bought it, a knock in the front end when braking.

The hardware for the rear windows could be replaced if you can find them. They are there and they work for the most part, but a 65 or 70mph the windows blow closed.

Driver’s door needs new knob for window crank.

So if you are looking for a show car, please don’t bother me.

If you are looking for a daily driver that turns heads and gets a thumbs up from strangers. Or when the other members of the club are wrapped in blankets for November car club drive in their convertibles, guess what you wont need that blanket unless you’re going to pull over for a picnic with your sweetheart.

So why am I getting rid of it? Well I am moving to Florida and frankly who needs a toy with a hard top down there. I will take the blanket though…. For the beach.
