Here for auction is a well preserved all original 1977 Mercedes Benz 240D set up to run on vegetable oil, regular diesel, biodiesel, or either mixed together.

These 240's became popular for there overall durability, versatility and miles per gallon. I mention this because the 4 cylinder diesel was not known to be a quick car, 240's can be a bit "tractor like". Honestly that's what I like about them, good tough cars. This car in particular is good on the freeway once you get it up to speed, it doesn't mind doing 80 comfortably. Around town it shifts good through all gears, it does take alittle finesse to maximize the cars power, but once you get in sync with it, speed and shifting isn't an issue. So being a 240 overall I am impressed with the cars speed around town and on the highway.

When I first saw the car and seen that it was in great shape I became interested in the color, very nice green, Mercedes calls it Nickle Green. Once I started driving it around is when I really started to like it. The color brings out the classic style this car embodies, so to me being in it's original condition and preserved the way it is makes it more unique and a fun car to drive. And the fact it's able to run on vegetable oil is a plus, plus, lot's of versatility. The system installed to heat and filter the oil has proven over the years to be the most effective. Very safe buy if you are just getting in to this type of car, or if you are a seasoned pro. I aquired the car to resale here, my mechanic and I have looked it over, I have driven it a few hundred miles,  system is new, car is ready for delivery.

Car is set up to run on Straight Vegetable Oil, Waste Vegetable Oil, Biodiesel, Diesel, or a combination of any of these fuels. The single tank conversions are the easiest and most efficient way to run vegetable oil in your vehicle. Also note that you can simply run straight diesel, the system installed allows you to turn off the heat sources via a switch located by the steering wheel. And when you decide to run vegetable oil it's OK to mix the two(diesel & vegoil) together, or simply run straight vegetable oil. If you are environmentally conscious, this is the vehicle for you. This car has a neutral carbon footprint. If you are trying to save money on fuel, this is the vehicle for you.

Vegetable Oil Conversion: The conversion is based on a 2 micron filter/water separator that has a top loaded 150 watt heating element that automatically turns on when temperatures fall below 60F and turns off when the oil reaches 85F. This insures that the veg oil will flow through your filter no matter how cold it gets outside. The final heat stage comes from injector line heaters that get the fuel nice and hot quickly. These heaters will get the fuel to 170F within 3 minutes and if you turn them on before you start the car you will be insuring that hot oil is reaching the injectors right away. This will insure easy starts, even on cold mornings and also insure proper and complete burning of the oil which is critical for the health of your engine. I am very experienced with these Mercedes diesels, and I will only sell cars here that are ready to give there new owner much pleasure and pride. Not only do I do conversions I also make sure mechanically they are ready for delivery. Below in further detail I have listed all the information on the car. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, I will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Mechanical

I just had my mechanic go through the car, this car has no issues. The coolant is green, runs at a constant low temperature. Motor provides alot of get up and go and does so smoothly. Engine leaks no oil or coolant, and it starts right up quickly in the morning when it's cold. On the highway it's quiet for a 240 at higher speeds. The transmission shifts fine in all gears, clutch is good, brakes are good, alignment is good. All 4 tires are like new and all are the same, no uneven wear. Car is solid and ready to be driven.

Exterior

The paint is original, and again I really think the color and the car's overall condition make it a beautifull car. Paint does have it's issues, what I like is there is no fade or clear coat damage so the color is uniform throughout. But the car does have it's scratches and dings here and there. There are just a few tiny areas, 2 or 3 the size of a dime if not smaller that is starting to rust, not really noticeable, has not really affected the paint surface. All the chrome and rubber are in great condition, the car was garaged kept for the better part of it's life for sure. When I received it there were 2 sets of mats in it, which are nice and I will transfer to the new owner. Car has no bondo, and has never been in an accident. All the lights, turn signals, high beams, low beams, fog lights, brake lights all work as they should.

Interior

The interior is in great shape considering it's age, the carpet is really nice, the seats show some wear and the driver's seat has lost some of it's firmness, but it's still evenly comfortable. The dash is in exceptional condition. All the windows work, the doors all function nicely opening and closing, all the locks function as they should. The heater works as well as the fan for speed controls. The AC does not work. All the lights on the dash and center console function properly, and all the controls function and operate correctly on the dash. The radio sounds good and gets good reception. The shift boot has is new, so no ugly cracks, the windshield does have a small chip in the center so while driving it's not a bother. Headliner is in great shape, again this is a fun car to drive, the new owner will be happy.

Clean California title, registration is good until February 2010, there are no back fee's attached to car. For those of you that don't already know there is no smog on these diesels in California. I will get back to you as quickly as possible.
