1982 Mercedes 240D - Southern Car - 123,000 Miles
This is a very nice 240D. I've driven it daily for the past 3 months and I need a bigger car for my new job. I found this car on E-Bay. being sold due to the death of it's owner (seller's grandmother). It was owned by her grandmother and grandfather (deceased). They lived in the south and spent winters in Florida. The body on the car is fantastic.
I have maintenance receipts for the car dating back to 2005 with mileage documented at 81,639. There are subsequent receipts with mileage till 119,958 when I purchased it.
I had the car checked over thoroughly and charged the A/C. (It has R134 conversion already) Replaced front brake pads and rotors. Rear pads and rotors were done at 111,306 miles. I had new fuel filters done and oil changed recently. I put a dash molded cover to cover over several sun cracks on the dash. Color of dash cover is real close to dash color (pictures make it look like a totally different blue but most people, in person, can't tell there's a cover). I had drivers seat cushion repadded and new cover. Old cover had some tearing at stitching (dry rot). I had car professionally buffed out and paint shows quite nicely. There were some door dings/dents that I had paintless dent removal done.
As pictures show, this car is quite a nice 240D in a most attractive color combination. I'm still shocked at how nice the carpets are. They look incredible with no stains. I'm somewhat of a clean car freak and that told me a lot about how nice this car was taken care of along with the general condition of the interior. ALL systems work fine.
RADIO - Original Becker Europa stereo (with cassette). I haven't tried cassette player bur radio sounds great.
ANTENNA - Raises/lowers as it should.
POWER SUNROOF - Slides nicely open/close in warm weather - stiff in cold weather.
CRUISE - Works great.
VACUUM door locks - work ok.
HEAT/AC - Very good.
AUTOMATIC TRANS - 240D's automatic shift a little harsh by nature (I'm told due to vacuum needs to build up). Mechanic told me mine worked like it should. After warm up, it is much smoother.
ENGINE - Runs incredibly smooth - 4 cyl diesels aren't real quiet. Once you reach cruising speed it is ok.
TIRES - Have lots of tread - 70%+. I'd prefer some Pirellis but it has Goodyears. Don't know age.
NO DRIPS OR LEAKS
The paint has some fading on doorposts and areas at doors (under windows). However, overall look is quite nice considering age.
When I take it to the car wash, I always get noticed by someone who looks it over and asks it's age. It does turn some heads. Many more than I expected.
This is a fun car to drive even though it's not a speedster. An engine known to go over 1,000,000 miles. My MPG has been in the 24-29 range. Cruising speed is comfortable at 65. It will run up to 75 if you want but I wouldn't say that's a comfortable speed.
This car is a great looking driver. It will last as long as you want it to. There is a faithful following of W-123 fans. Here's your chance to be one of them without spending a lot of money.
GOOD LUCK
