Vehicle History Report Summary for 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This is being relisted because of a non paying bidder. Let me say it once. DON"T BID IF YOU DONT PLAN TO BUY. Its a shame that these games have to go on on Ebay. That being said. Let me know if you have any questions, ask them before bidding or buying. You will need to have this car shipped or pick up with a trailer, so take that into consideration. Thanks for looking.
This is a 1968 Mercury Cougar xr7. This is a fairly rare care. Ill go over the good and the bad. The good: Most of the sheetmetal is great. I am working on a 67 mustang and most of the places that I had bad rust, this Cougar doesnt have. Good doors, good glass, factory air( everything but compressor) console with clock, tach, power steering and power disc brakes( this can convert straight over for mustangs, comets, etc with drums) Nice WORKING flip up vacuum headlights. The bad: the rear quarters need replacement, the motor is not the original 302 that it came equipped with, but the good thing is that it was swapped for a 351w, something in the 70s, and although it doesnt idle that well, I got it running and hitting the throttle...it sounds great, no smoke or anything.The carb is actually a Quadrajet. The trans I think is shot. I have shifted it both in car and underneath on the trans but cant get any reaction. I bought this with the intention of parting it out, as the parts are worth more than I am asking, but for now, I am just selling it whole, and will look at parting it out if it does not sell. It has traction bars installed by one of the previous owners, and 4 small holes in the otherwise perfect hood, so I am drawing my own conclusion that the previous owner hopped it up a bit for performance with the trac bars and 351 and non funtional hood scoop, then they blew the tranny. It may still work, the fluid is nice and red, but I havnt dropped the pan to look. The brakes dont work right now, and in going thru it, it looks like a short piece of line to the master cyl needs a new end put on it, should be fine then. I was going to do it and get it driving, which would have been easy, but dont really want to get into the tranny. I have too many projects, but I will let someone else take this one for parts or project. Really, I think this has little rust for the year and model, especially since I have been working on basically the same car and it was much worse. This car is a GREAT start to a restore project, or as a parts car, having most of the hard to find or expensive pieces, especially being an xr7. Feel free to email if you have any questions. I accept paypal only, and if you want to get it shipped, you will need t make arrangements. I can help some but am pretty busy. Thanks for looking. Non refund deposit due within 24 hours, full payment due within 5 days. If you have questions, ask them before bidding, or if you need more pics, I will get you them.
