Vehicle History Report Summary for 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7 G
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beautiful Augusta Green over Nugget Gold G. This unique Cougar is one of 619 Shelby G’s produced in 1968. The low mileage Cougar is equipped with a newly rebuilt 302 4V engine, C4 transmission, power steering and all the XR7-G specific parts including unique center console, front fog lamps, hood pins, hood scoop, bullet drivers side rearview mirror, pipe-in-pipe exhaust and trim rings and XR7-G “C” pillar, grill and dash emblems. The car was repainted once more than twenty years ago and the prior owner took some styling liberties by adding 68 XR7 emblems to the rear quarters. The paint still shines very nicely although there are a few small chips and visible blended areas as well as some small raised bubbles that just appeared last year on the decklid and a couple of other places. There appears to be some bondo under the paint in the quarters but I’m unaware of any rust and there are no rust pimples anywhere that I can see. The chrome, stainless and aluminum trim is in very good condition. All the hood, fender, trunk and quarter trim was restored. The black vinyl top appears to be the original and is in very good condition. The styled steel wheels are very nice and have new reproduction XR7-G center caps and NOS trim rings. The whitewall tires have plenty of miles left. The 302 was recently rebuilt by a local Fordnutz Cougar Club member and is built a little bit from stock. It moves this G around very well and sounds great doing it. Everything in the engine is brand new and it has a new Holley 500 cfm carb. The engine and engine compartment are beautifully detailed and stock appearing. The interior has been reupholstered in the original Nugget Gold but all vinyl seat covers were used instead of leather. The door panels and rear quarter panels are original and in very nice shape. The unique center console is also in very good shape. The original AM radio is in place and works well. All the windows roll up and down and the gauges all work as they should. Included with the car is a box of new beltline weatherstrip and felts. The brakes, steering, suspension, differential and transmission all work as they should however the rear springs are in need of replacing as the rear sags a bit. Otherwise, there are no mechanical issues that I’m aware of. Overall, this is a very striking color combination that is rarely seen, particularly on an XR7-G. This is a car you can hop in and drive with no worries. It has been to CCOA National Shows and all over the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada and always wins awards. It’s not perfect but is a very nice driver/local show winner that you can enjoy now and address whatever improvements you would like to make over time. I’ve just bought another Cougar and I can’t keep them all. Please call Scott Ferguson at (604) 591-3673 or email scott.f@telus.net for more information.
