1962 Nash
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This is a 1962 Nash Metropolitan that has been in our family for just over 20 years. It was purchased from a gentleman who claimed that his work studio had previously used it on a Seventies television show called Vegas. A character named Benzer supposedly drove the car. There is no proof of this but there is a unique lock box located on the front fender that could help verify. While I don't expect this to add any value to the car, I thought that this was an interesting bit of history that was worth passing on to the next owner.
OK. I drove this car in high school and my Dad now drives it around town. While it doesn't look like much, it runs extremely well. I recently serviced the brakes by installing brand new wheel cylinders and rebuilding the master. The motor runs strong although the fuel is feed through using a temporary boat-style gas tank because the original was in poor shape. this will need to be replaced. The car will also need a new wiring harness for head/tail lights, blinkers, and brake lights.
The car features a unique 3 speed on the floor shifter that functions very well with no damage to the original transmission or dash. This can be converted back to the original 3-on-the-tree style shifter if desired.
New tires all around and newer seat upholstery. The body is straight and cancer free except for a deep bubble forming along the driver door sill. The pan is dry with the exception of surface rust. A thin coat of paint and a carpet kit should do the trick quite nicely for the interior. The exterior could use a new paint job. Rubber seals around the windows are in good condition.
Easy restoration because the car already runs amazingly!
Email with questions and happy bidding. On Nov-07-09 at 12:13:00 PST, seller added the following information: Also worth noting is that 1962 was the last year these cars were sold. From what I can recall, there were only around 500 Metropolitans sold in 1962. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
