Vehicle History Report Summary for 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hello, I am putting up for auction my 1988 Cutlass Supreme Classic that I have owned for over 10 years. In the waning months of the last century, (09/99) I saw this car in a dealer lot. Being an avid, or some would say, rabid fan of Oldsmobiles, I was stunned by the quality and solid nature of this car. The interior was perfect, and the exterior, although faded was rust free. In the time of my ownership, things have only gotten better. This is a very well optioned car from the factory with a couple of dealer gems that were installed at that time I believe. Options include power windows and locks. Air conditioning, reclining buckets, sports console, rear window defogger, sport mirrors, f-41 firm ride, tilt column and more. Items added at the dealer are manual sunroof ( NEVER leaked) and outer opera lights. Items that I have added are an all Rockford Fosgate sound system (more info later on), remote right side mirror, leather sport steering wheel, super stock rims, 442 air cleaner and ralley guage package. This car is sporting paint less than a year old, and you won't find a tape line anywhere. The car was almost totally disassembled to insure uniform color and total paint protection of the metal. The vinyl top is even newer, and dramatically adds to the beauty of the car. The tires have a lot of tread left, and are the Indy 500 Firestones. The rims have a custom paint scheme similar to the 442 and Hurst/Olds rims. The spare is a full size tire for more safety during those emergencies. New bumper inserts were added after the paint job. The doors do not sag, and shut solidly with no rattles. The total stereo power is almost 500 watts, but is dialed way back for my use. The speakers are installed in the dash locations for the front, are 6X9 in the back location using adapters, and there are a pair of 12" woofers firing through the rear seat for the all important low end. It should be noted that there is not a single hole in the car made for this installation! That was a very high priority item for me. The radio is a detachable face AM/FM/CD unit. The interior is still spectacular, the seats are all excellent, it still has THE ORIGINAL CARPET, unworn, and the plastic is unfaded. The dash is crack free. The headliner is excellent and about 4 years old. The engine is a newer long block 350 Olds assembly bought from the supplier. I still have the orig. engine, but it needs some work. You can have it if you want. The trans is a 200-r4 overdrive. Brakes and suspension have no known issues. The car has about 73 thousand actual miles. This is confirmed, by the Carfax I pulled on the vehicle at the time of purchase. It confirmed no problems with the car, and showed that the car was registered in 1988. For the next 9 years, it sat unused and was re-registerd in 1998 with 9,514 miles. 7 months later, it was transferred to florida, but was mistakenly logged at 121K. Either this is an error, or that drive to FLA was 112,000 miles long! One look at the interior, and you know it never rolled the odometer. With the F-41 suspension and the wider tires, off ramps are a joy. All glass is good. Every car has its warts, and so does this one. After 21 years, there are a couple creases in the drivers seat that will eventually fail. You can see them in the photos, but I am including a piece of fabric to replace that part. The shoulder belt webs have fraying. The interior does have some scrapes in the plastic, none of them obvious. The paint has some scratches in it, mostly on the roof. There is a small ding in the drivers fender, and some small chips. The trunk is rust free, but the floors had some rust. The rust was removed, galvanized metal installed, and then sealed. The entire floor was then covered with a material similar to dynamat to insulate it, keep out heat, reduce noise and prevent water from getting to the floor again. Issues that need to be adressed in the future are the pulse wipers are not working although it does in low and high speeds. the cluster needs attention, but a new one is included where I am installing a Sun tach and auto meter guages in the factory locations. The power antenna is in the trunk for installation. The trans needs an adjustment as the shifts come too early. I have entered the car in 2 shows this year. I took a second place at the local BOP show against ALL year Cutlasses, and just took a best in class at the Fla BOP-C show for all G body Cutlasses on 9/24/09 . The car handled the 200 mile drive each way with no problems worse than tire balance . Please ask any questions you may have. I have tried to the best of my abilities to list all the good and bad points on the car. Most cars are bought, and then you have to spend much more taking care of the little detail items. On this car, the emblems, plastic light housings, brightwork, interior bucket trim and more are very nice. You can still swap out things with NOS, but don't have to. The car is being sold as-is with no warranties. a non refundable $300 deposit is expected within 7 days of auction end, pick up or delivery will be the winners responsibility. Please do your homework, and know what you are buying before you bid. There are some knowledgeable Olds lovers down here that can confirm the condition of the car for you. On Nov-05-09 at 16:21:03 PST, seller added the following information: In response to a request, I am listing the codes from the sticker in the trunk.

As stated in the original auction listing, the Carfax history ( still have it) that I pulled in 2000 showed the car with 9,514 original miles on 12/98, with no events noted from the time of its original registration. This led me to believe I was the second owner, and gave circumstantial support to my belief it was a 23K mile car when I bought it. Subsequent to that, confirmation to that theory came in finding the original spark plug wires when I did my first tune up. I also was told that everything in the front end was tight and original to the car when I took it for an alignment at that same general time. As you can see in the photos, the carpet is unworn, the console cover has minimal color loss and no dry rot, the door panel is not worn at the top, the brake pad is unworn and the seat has the majority of the nap still in the fabric. Please note that these current conditions are today, with an additional 50,000 miles and 10 years since the day of my purchase. My impact on the car was extremely light, as I considered it a collectable since the day I bought it, and treated it as such. Anyone who knows these cars also knows how quickly they show wear. To think that 4 owners could have such a minimal effect on a car over 21 years is amazing. As I CANNOT DISPUTE the Experian claim, I ask that you consider this car to be a 173,000 mile car that has had 4 owners and a minor accident in its past. ( they say no frame damage). I may have to contact the people at the Guinness book to have my car considered the best kept car with over 175K miles. So, either the Carfax report is wrong, or the experian one is. You will have to decide which one you give more credit to. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
