A little bit of history on the Bradley.

From 1971 - 1979, the Bradley Corporation designed, manufactured and sold a line of kit cars based on the old style Volkswagen Beetle chassis.  Originally, three models were sold under the Bradley Corporation name; GT, Scorpion, and the GT II.   In 1980, after falling on hard times, the Bradley Corporation became the Electric Vehicle Corporation, which began selling electric versions of the Bradley GT II, as seen here in this 1981 model.

This Bradley GT II incorporates an aerodynamic design, with gull wing doors, and a fiberglass body. The stock vehicle also includes a four speed transmission and the Electric Vehicle Corporation’s Tracer I 96-Volt Electric Propulsion System.  The Electric Propulsion System provides a six hour / 220-volt recharge time, 20.9 horsepower traction motor, sixteen 6-volt deep storage electric vehicle batteries, solid state controller, on board battery charger, battery support system, and a heavy duty suspension system.

After much controversy and scandal, the Electric Vehicle Corporation was forced to close its doors due to bankruptcy and consumer fraud. The Minnesota based company made headlines in 1981 after 100 consumers across the U.S. paid up to $24,000 for their Bradley GT, and never received the car.  Consumers who did receive their unassembled car kits complained of missing or deficient parts.  It was believed that much of the scandal was backed by sour gambling deals in Las Vegas which was controlled by organized crime.  However, this theory was never proven true in court.

You are bidding on the 1981 Bradley GTII below.

Although Bradley made kit cars early on this car is NOT A KIT.  This is a factory electric vehicle and it is believed to be the 8th one to come off the line.

What a great example of the early electric vehicle production.  This car was well before its time and has many neat features.  It is a true survivor as it has only 9,326 original miles on it.

The body of this sleek sports car looking EV is in very good condition and it features the original paint.  While the car is not mint it is very presentable.  The gullwing doors operate well and line up nicely.  The doors also feature removable windows on the roof similar to a T-Top but not as open.  Please view the numerous pics we have provided below to get an idea of the cars cosmetic condition.

The electric motor is in very good condition and the car runs and drives very well.  The controller and other misc electrical were updated in 2005 at the cost of over one thousand dollars.  The batteries were replaced about 100 miles ago.  The car has plugs for both 110 and 220 outlets.

The car features a four speed manual transmission and it shifts through the gears without effort.  A new pressure plate, clutch disc, throw-out bearing, and misc clutch parts were installed by a professional shop at 3004 miles.

All receipts for the parts will be provided with the car.  There is over $2500 in receipts within the last 1000 miles of the cars operation.

The original interior, while not mint, is in very good condition for its age.  There are no major rips or tears.  The dash features a full complement of working gauges.  There is a high end (when new) Panasonic "Cockpit" stereo system mounted to the headliner of the car.  It features AM/FM cassette, equalizer, and interior lighting.

Glass throughout the car is in good condition, free of cracks or chips

The car still has its original Western mag wheels and original Firestone radial tires.

The cars brakes are in good working order and they were replaced about 500 miles ago.

Overall, this car is a nice original running and driving car.  The current owner is only its second which would make the new owner the third.

Feel free to email any questions and check out the numerous pics we have up for your viewing pleasure.

A clear California title is on hand and the car is free of liens or back fees.  It is currently registered in California.

The odometer reads 9,326 and it is believed to be the actual mileage.

This vehicle is consigned to the California Automobile Museum, a non-profit organization located at 2200 Front Street, Sacramento, CA, where it is available for inspection.  The vehicle is sold AS-IS with no warranty intended or implied by the California Automobile Museum or its consignor.

Bidding indicates that you are satisfied with the information and photographs provided regarding all aspects of the vehicle and are committed to completing the purchase if you are the high bidder.  The winning bidder will be contacted and sent a California Bill of Sale and a Warranty Disclaimer to be signed and returned to the California Automobile Museum confirming the purchase.

Prompt payment is expected.  We accept cashier’s check, money orders, or inter-bank transfer. Failure to pay in full within 10 days after close of auction may result in cancellation of the sale unless other acceptable payment arrangements are made.  We reserve the right to reject bids made by those with negative or zero feedback.  Transportation/shipping arrangements and cost are the buyer’s responsibility.
