1913 Other Makes Crow Elkhart Roadster
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Up for bid is a very rare 1913 Crow Elkhart Roadster, and the ONLY roadster known to exist in the world. This is a wonderful car with a great history. Before I go into that I will give you a brief biography below on the car & the man who built and started the company. The Crow-Elkhart grew from a plan to build the Menges self-starter automobile at the Sterling-Hudson Whip Company in Elkhart, Indiana. Dr. E.C. Crow and his son Martin departed the Menges project to begin producing automobiles with their own name. Crow-Elkharts were powered by Rutenber, Lycoming, Herschell-Spillman, Gray and Atlas proprietary engines. Dr. Crow and his son Martin continued to built the Crow-Elkhart from 1909-10 until to 1919 when they sold the company and was moved to the village of, Mount Brydges in Canada until 1923 when the company closed its doors. The car offered here is the only known 1913 Crow-Elkhart Roadster that we know of in the world today. I purchased this car from the Owls Head Museum in Main where it had resided for the last twelve years. Prior to that it came from the estate of Margaret McGrath Rockefeller here in Westchester County New York in settlement proceedings of David Rockefeller. I will provide all documentation to this fact to the next owner. I have a clear transferable New York registration to the car to be transferred to the next owner so as not to have the problem of registration paper work and will be signed right over to the next owner so he or she can go to motor vehicles and register the car without a problem. This car is a wonderful large & powerful brass era automobile and is completely original with its original 33 horse power 4 cyl. “Atlas engine” and a three speed transmission and moves along on any highway with ease. Great for Brass tours with no problem on hills or passing. This car sit up very high and is really impressive to see and drive. The body is great as is all the fenders and sheet metal on this car. The leather is still in wonderful condition and the old top is also great as you can see. The large tires are excellent and the paint finish looks great and presents nicely overall. All the original lamps started out life with the car as well and sometime when the Rockefellers owned the car they had them plated. The horn however was on the car for many years but I do not know if its right for the car. This car is a fine example of the only 1913 Crow-Elkhart roadster known and is a rare investment worthy of a fine brass car collection. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime chance to purchase this fine brass era car that will most likely never come up again in your life. Best of luck to all. I accept all checks, money orders and credit cards including Pay-Pal, personal checks must clear my bank before I can let the car go. A deposit from the winning bidder of $ 1000.00 will hold the car till you can come and see or have the car picked up and if this car is not as described in this add I will refund your deposit back to you in full 100% No Questions Asked. I can arrange shipping for you door to door if you wish and will be more than happy to accommodate you in any way to make buying your car a safe and easy transaction.
