This is Volga Gaz-21. It was made in 1962 in USSR

This is a fully original II series Volga (1959-1962).

   To begin with, a few words about the legendary Russian Volga. Volga Gaz-21 was made in the USSR from 1957 till 1970. There were three modifications of Volga (first, second and third series). The first series were made from 1957 till 1958, these cars had some disadvantages and required improvement, so that 2 years later second series appeared, which Volga Gaz-21 represents.

 The second series had been made for three years from 1959 till 1962. They already had an original design which made the car a unique one in the world. Designers and creators spared neither strength nor resources (metal and chrome) for building these cars of II series.

 II series cars confirmed the power and force of the USSR. They combined aggression and aesthetics in their design. These cars where rather expensive and, of course, not each USSR person could get them. And then designers created the third series which were cheaper in production; expensive chrome and metal details pertaining to the II series disappeared. The lower cost price of the third series provided large-scale production, so that not only people of high class could buy such cars. The III series was produced for eight years.

Nowadays Volga Gaz -21, especially legend II series, became not just a car – it is a cultural icon, like a '56 T-bird or a '64 Mustang are cultural icons.

Nowadays it is rather difficult to find original Volga Gaz 21 II series  in good condition on the territory of former Soviet Union countries. Most of these cars have not reached our days. Mostly, all cars left are in the terrible condition, with no possible restoration and the details (motors, transmissions, etc) are replaced, consequently they are not original.  Only museum cars and cars belonging to rich private owners are in good condition and have all original details as my car you can now observe.

Volga Gaz-21 II series is a real legend of the USSR car production.  Lucky owners of these rare cars are really proud of it. Moreover, Russian ex-president and prime minister Putin has the same car Volga Gaz-21 II series even the same color, he often goes to different events on it and it was a big deal when he let President Bush drive it.) 

My car is 100% original and has all native factory details. The pre-owner was the USSR official, party member, Pavlenko G.O.. He bought this car in 1962, its luxurious leather saloon was specially made to his order at the same factory. Back and front torpedoes were covered by leather and seats also partially had a leather pattern. And this car acquired a rare design. Such special orders were rather rare and didn’t exist officially because of the equality politics run by Soviet authorities. Pavlenko did not use his car very often because he had a service car and private driver. That’s why the mileage of this car equals only 56000 miles for almost 50 years. And he took care of it regularly.

 All details are in good condition even its native tires, only accumulator and some insufficient details were changed.  This car was repainted last year by Russian specialists for returning its primordial glitter. My car is not new and it has natural wear and tear because of its age (almost 50 years, you can see it on photos), but it is in truly remarkable shape. This is an excellent piece of history which costs more than money!

This car is a rarity for USSR countries and real ‘exotics’ for USA.

The car was delivered from the former USSR country (you can see the photos of this Volga in her native country). It really was a big deal to get it here, in the USA.
