It's designed to take some abuse but I do not want to test it to any extreme. My primary use is to program two way radios, sometimes in the field. It's more than enough memory and is fast enough. I highly recommend that anyone who purchases this item make a backup copy or two of the image consisting of the operating system and any software and drivers that the computer comes with. For whatever reason a system backup disk was not in the box as promised. Take you time when you first use it especially if you have never used a Toughbook before as this one did not come with any instructions or suggestions as some refurbished computers do. The battery lasts longer than expected on a full charge. It also features a serial port as well as several USB ports if that is important to you.

Yes, it's heavy and a little bulky, but it always works. This is quality that you don't normally find in a laptop or notebook PC. You won't get it in a Dell, a Lenovo, an HP, a Toshiba or a Sony. I've had all of those, including many Dells, and as far as reliability and capability are concerned, this Panasonic CF-30 blows them all away. In fact most of those PC's I mentioned are dead in a box in the basement. The CF-30 does everything I need, very well. I'm using it right now in fact. Honestly, I have fallen in love with the CF-30. Yes, It's 8 years old. Yes, it has thousands of hours of use, yes it's heavy, but it still works fantastic, like an old Mercedes Benz or Toyota that you just can't stop. I suspect this computer is even better than when new, as it's been upgraded with Win7 Pro and an SSD drive. It is surprisingly fast, even when running demanding Software Defined Radio (SDR) applications, in an environment which includes an assortment of MS Office bloatware. It has a removable and changeable hard drive that can be done on the run, The screen is viewable in the bright sunlight and the keyboard is light up for night time use. MK3 runs Win 10 and Amateur Contact Log for portable ops including field day and island/summit activations. . Not lightweight but built like a brick outhouse. Battery life is excellent, Transmisive display makes screen very readable, even in bright sunlight outdoors. With touch screen you don't need a mouse. For emergency ops it is our laptop of choice. With Anderson powerpoles put on the carcharger/inverter it will last a long time with LiFEPO aux batteries. Computer will run for 10-12 hours. on internal battery and indef with aux external battery. Every auxcomm/public service volunteer should have one of these in their go-kit. I have 2 of them.

The Survey crew uses this in the field.. It gets thrown around quite a bit. They use it on the hood of the truck for coordinate transformation..! Beats going back to the office for data...We use a mouse instead of the touch pad like the office machines.. A little primadonna laptop wouldn't last a week out there..
