"RARE"
1969 Plymouth GTX
440 4 Speed
Convertible
We have recently rebuilt and
installed the date coded 440 HP block into this car. The motor was
fitted with NEW pistons, Rings, Rod, and Main Bearings. It has less
than 50 miles on it since put in and is breaking in nicely. It does not smoke
or leak and runs stronger than ever. The block is a Factory replacement
from Mopar, it has no numbers along the rail above the oil pan.
*****PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURE SHOWING MANUFACTURE DATE OF 440
WARRANTY REPLACEMENT BLOCK.
MANUFACTURED DATE OF 440 BLOCK CURRENTLY IN THE CAR IS 06-05-68Up for bids we have a smoking hot 1969 Plymouth GTX 440 4 speed convertible. This is an extremely rare Muscle Car. It is only 1 of 178, 1969 convertible GTX's built with the 4 speed manual transmission.
First, lets Decode the Fender Tag and show its very impressive list of options.

As you can see there are probably very few of these cars with these options still out there. Being 1 of 178 makes it rare, but how many of the 178 have an option list like this one? I often wonder of the 178 that were produced, how many are still even in existance.
MOPAR MUSCLE......For the die hard Mopar Muscle men (and women) out there, the arguably most desirable engine is the big block 440 (unless you are looking for the Holy Grail 426 Hemi). I have to say this car has more brute grunt than anything I have ever driven. It astonished me that a 4300 lb. car could bare down and move like this one does. The 440 is super strong and wants nothing more than to chew the blacktop up and spit it back in your face. No funny noises or leaks either, IT IS AS SOLID AS THEY GET, however, this is not the original engine for the car. The engine compartment itself is very neat and clean, it has been kept as close to original condition as possible. To the best of our knowledge the 440 was rated at 375 h.p. but as most people know factories often underrated that. One drive around the block and you will know that this motor has been underrated as well.
HEMI'S IN DISQUISE......All of the Hemi cars were really convertibles in disquise. Rather than strengthening the existing chassis, all Hemi cars used a convertible body with an attached roof. Due to design differences the convertible style is stronger than a hardtop. The convertible had torque boxes attached that connected the rear bulkhead to the side rails in front of each rear leaf springs, this not only made the frame stronger, but served as an identifying purpose on real Hemi cars. You can see the boxes if you look underneath.
4 SPEED......The transmission is the heavy duty 4 speed manual. This tranny coupled to the big block is a must combo for the true muscle car fanatic. It shifts perfectly every single throw and is very hard to miss a gear in. The clutch is solid as a rock with no slip whatsoever. There is no grinding of gears or any whining noise while going down the road or just coasting with the clutch in. It has always shifted flawlessly for me and bites hard in every gear...every time! The shifter has recently been triple chrome plated to accent the beautifully restored interior.
DANA 60 TRACK PACK......The last rock solid piece in this classic iron is the Dana 60 Track Package. The Dana 60 was used on all of the 4 speed cars vs. the Chrysler 8 3/4 rearend. The rear axle is tight with no noises or whining. It has no problem lighting up the bias tires if you so desire. The rear axle is a 3.54 to 1 which gives a good hole shot, but you can still drive it on the highway. This is a great all around rear gear for cruise nights or showing the younger generation gear heads what true muscle cars are all about. The Magnum 500, 14 inch rims are riding on Good/Year F 70-14 Polyglass tires.
SCORCH RED......We could write a book on the amount of time and effort that has went into this beautiful paint and body work done on this car. A local man that we have known for years and is considered in our area to be one of the best, will not put a car out in the general public unless he knows it is exceptionally straight. He is very meticulous about any car he undertakes and this one is no exception. Many times we thought this car was ready for paint, but he expected more. The drivers side quarter panel needed replaced so it was ordered thru Yearone. All the other panels except the trunk lid are original. We have a ton of pictures showing the different phases of the paint and body work. The paint of course is the ever popular Scorch Red. It is very, very nice and straight. It was painted with chromebase for that deep, rich, almost wet look. The car sports the Matte Black Hood paint and has the white longitudinal lines that run along the sides. No detail has been overlooked on the body. The rear trunk panel was sent to Pauls Chroming in Pennsylvannia, it was professionally redone. The front grill piece was sent to California to Auto Brite as well as the headlight and taillight bezels. Rear trunk panel, Front grill, and light bezels look like they did when they were installed on the assembly line! New tailights were also installed. Convertible top is brand new, it moves up and down freely with no snags or catches. It is soft and pliable just the way a top should be. This car looks great with the top up of down whichever you prefer.
WHITE HOT INTERIOR......White vinyl bucket seats up front with a single bench in the rear are in excellent shape. Console is very neat and straight just like the rest of the car. The dash has minor imperfections but you really have to look to find them. Carpet looks like new and shows no signs of wear and tear. All door panels have been painted black to factory colors and look great. All glass is good and shows almost no signs of fogging. Every attention to detail has been taken to insure that this Historic piece of Muscle car era has been preserved for years to come. This car is not only appealing to the eye, but appealing to the person that wants to drive it as well. These cars were made to be driven and that's what we want to do as well.
GALEN GOVIER CHRYSLER REGISTRY......On July 24, 2006 we received documentation that shows the car is listed on the Govier Registry and comes with documents to prove it. The documents show that this car is definitley unique, according to Galens Registry, this car was number 8 of 68 in VIN sequence of the 1969 440 4bbl Plymouth GTX Convertibles accounted for at the St. Louis Missouri plant where all 69 GTX Convertilbes were produced. There were appx 57 Convertibles produced with AM/FM Radio with a MSRP of $134.95. There were appx 120 Convertibles produced with dash mounted tachometer that had a MSRP of $50.15.
MOPAR MANIA......With the price of the Cuda's and Challengers skyrocketing into 6 figures one thing is for certain, Mopar fans are very true to their cars. We have over $16000.00 worth of receipts showing that no expense has been spared to bring this car to its current condition. We have tried to focus on driveability, dependability, performance and correctness. We feel we have achieved our goal in doing just that! Below is a detailed list of New and Highly reconditioned parts that have been put on this great car.
