Vehicle History Report Summary for 1970 Pontiac GTO The Judge
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This is the one Up for Auction is a stunning 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge. If you have been waiting for the right 1970 GTO Judge then please take a look at this one. There are 79 detailed pictures that will load so please give it some time. It will be worth the wait. This car has a solid southern history with correct numbers matching motor,4 speed and 3:23 posi rear end. If extreme quality and high end details, coupled with a perfect body fit and finish are important to you then this is the car you have been looking for. I have been restoring cars for over 22 years and have seen it all. My last car sold on ebay was Auction # 180413827969 and was the 1972 455 HO 4 speed Trans Am that sold for 58,000 and change. I restored that car from the ground up and this Judge is one level above it and is a True #1 car. I was a quality engineer for General Motors for 15 years and have talked with workers that built these cars and have seen a lot of the original documentation and paperwork on these cars. I have restored this judge to what I think is the correct detail items and paint markings based on years of research and experience. History This car was sold new by Central Pontiac-Buick Company of Laurel, MS. and before coming to the good climate of Texas was garage kept in Laurel,MS by the previous owner until purchased by me in 1994. This judge is one of 3,629 judges produced that year. The only judge model that is rarer than this is a 1971 with 357 total hard tops produced. The 1969 production total was 6,725. This car is unique because very few judges came with vinyl tops. It is believed that about 100 judges were built with this option. A total of 3,054 RA III Hardtop GTO's with 4 speed were built. Breakdown does not show how many Judges were built with 4 speed but I would estimate about 2,500 based on what I have heard from other people and articles. How many still survive? 4 speed numbers matching Judges had a very high attrition rate and are no longer around to be restored. Good guess is about 1/2 have had PHS documents ordered. Documentation 1. Car is well documented by PHS and comes with the complete package. 2. Have original picture of the Judge in front of the original owners house before I purchased the car. 3. Various receipts for all the work and parts purchased will be included with the sale. 4. 90% of the parts used to restore the car were NOS or nice original. All others were purchased from Ames performance parts. Trusted parts that look good and fit correctly. 5. The Vin on the motor matches the Vin on the dash and all build dates for major motor and drive train parts precede the build date of the car. Numbers Matching The Vin for the car is 24237OR116425 and was built at the Arlington,Tx assembly plant. the Vin number on the motor is 20R116425. See pics below. Engine Build The engine was built to stock specifications. Some parts were updated to current technology for driveability and reliability. 1. Short block was built with correct "N" crank shaft ,correcting rods(new ARP rod bolts), forged TRW pistons, moly rings, windage tray and the complete assembly was internally balanced to make the motor last and run very smooth. This will help it last another lifetime. Block was honed with a torque plate to keep the cylinders round and true so the rings will seat correctly. Casting number on the block is 9799914 and the casting date is H289. August,28 1969. Build date on trim tag is 10A which is the first week in October. Block was cast 4 weeks before the build date of the car which is standard lead time. 2. Heads were completly rebuilt with bronze guides and new valves. No porting to the heads to keep the motor true to the original design. New Comp cams dual springs were installed with 10 degree locks and new retainers. The springs are matched to the 272 High energy hydraulic Comp Cam that translates into a good idle and just a hint of a loap. Cam produces 15 inches of vacuum and is perfect for power brakes, power steering and A/C. Double roller Comp Cams timing chain was used to tie the crank to the cam. New pushrods and rockers were installed. Head casting numbers are "12" and a matched set. Date code is J029. Assembled just before it was put into the car. Intake is the correct part number of 9799068 but is a later date code. A060. I purchased the car with an Edelbrock intake installed, The original was not saved by the original owner. 3. Carburator and Distibutor are the correct date coded and numbers matching components. Carb was professionally rebuilt by "Custom Rebuilt Carbs" in Middlesex,NJ. Fully restored and correctly replated. Carb performs flawlessly and has a perfect idle. Distributor was cleaned and new shaft bushing installed. I added a Lob Sensor Pertronix system. Nice set-up and will give years of trouble free use. Ignition Coil is NOS GM correct. Distributor cap is black and wires are 7mm replacements to look like originals but are better quality. 4. 4 Speed was completly rebuilt with a full kit and shifts very smoothly with positive engagement. Case number is 3925660, tail case is 3950306, and the side cover is 3952648. Build date is P9R2 which is Oct 2, 1969. Linkage has been cleaned and rebuilt with Hurst components. Very smooth. 5 Rear end is the correct date coded case with posi 3:23 set-up that came with A/C cars. It has been cleaned and new seals added. Posi is still in solid original shape. Nothing else needed. 6. Exhaust is a stock replacement that is correctly bent, aluminized 2-1/4 pipe with correct Exhaust tips and correct hardware. This car sounds just like it did back in 1970. I will be adding a video clip of the motor running and the exhaust note. Simply Pontiac Perfect. Condition This is a high quality, concours ready show car that has been driven only 20 miles to tune and adjust the car to perfection. This was a high quality survivor before the restoration was started. The paint has been color sanded and polished with no trace of orange peel anywhere. If you saw the 72 455 HO Trans Am paint. This car is one step up from that. Very hard to achieve that with silver metalic paint. The body will show all imperfections if not prepared exactly right. Seasoned car enthusiats know how hard it is to get a body fit and finish as nice as this car. The stainless and trim are show quality mint and were polished by " Don's East Coast". He is the one that does all the 55-57 chevy stainless if you want to win shows. He does flawless work. Vinyl top is GM NOS. Has the correct gloss and pattern so that it looks perfect and not fake like some of the aftermarket ones that are too shiny or the pattern is not correct. The interior is show quality all the way. Instruments have been detailed and the dash is the unmolested original. Simply perfect. Only thing in the interior that is not original is the console and steering wheel. The console is the Ames replacement and looks very good and fits perfect. The formula wheel was added and did not come with the car originally. Just looks better. I do have the original one that will go with the car if wanted. Console lid works perfectly but does not have the correct thumb tab to open. It is the 1969 style. The only thing that is missing is the AM radio. I have not been able to find a nice one that will match the level of the interior integrity. Seatbelts are a nice date coded deluxe set that simply look perfect with the black interior. NOS window crank handles and pedal pad stainless was installed "hence plastic bags over the pedals". All the external turn signal and tailight len's are NOS replacements and the car has it's original set of T3 headlights. The quality of the parts used is there and will look good for years to come. The rear spoiler is the original one that came with the car. It is painted semi-gloss black "optional correct color" and I think it looks better with the silver paint. All the turn signals and other instruments function with the exception of the temp gauge. I will have that sorted out by the end of the Auction. It needs a new sending unit. Tac works perfectly. Doors shut smoothly as original with the solid GM sound. All the glass is tinted and nice with a NOS rear window and new quarter windows installed. The A/C system has been cleaned and has all new o-rings installed and the compressor has the correct amount of oil installed. It is not charged due to obtaining the correct R-12. Compressor Clutch has been replaced and a new bearing was installed on the pully. System will work with a charge and looks brand new and original. Complete inspection paint dots and marks were added as well as all the correct code stickers. Highly detailed car. Everything else is as it looks in the detailed pictures. If you would like a picture of a certain area of the car, please feel free to email me and I will provide it. Options Build sheet lists SVT- Cordova Top, 354- 4 speed trans, 484-Tac and gauge cluster, 582 A/C, 332- The Judge, 361-Posi track,401-PB radio, 494-Console and 621-Spkr-R/H. Just the right combination of options. Pontiacs can get fat with options but tend to get a little lethargic in performance. This is not the case with this car. <img src="http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/picture?pictid={ED34BF86-5345-4002-9477-DCF04531FCBE}&size=STANDARD" border=0 alt="> <img
