23 years ago I bought my first car. Like many of my friends I wanted an old muscle car. I was lucky enough to find this one owner 1980 Trans Am... It was,... the coolest car in school. We've been through alot over the years. Unfortunately my story is the same as so many today. Lost my job awhile back... 5 kids to feed and my old Trans Am is the last thing to sell. For 23 years I've been telling people "I'm gonna keep this car forever", well I guess nothing is forever... Selling it now feels wrong, its like part of the family.
I gave it a full restoration in 1991. After It was repainted, I decided not to put the decals back on. I replaced the door panels, head liner, carpet, and dash. I installed power windows and locks. It was repowered with a GM High Output 350cid, connected to a turbo 400 tranny with a B&M shifter, and 3.73 gears in the rear end. The motor is a, ZZ3... 5.7 High output small-block producing 345 horse @5250 rpm and 387 lb-ft torque @3250 rpm. The motor has aluminum heads and intake manifold. I installed sub-frame connectors and replaced the body mounts. It has the original rally II wheels, However I had the rear wheels off set by a company in California. I feel it fills the wheel well better. After the restoration in 1991 I really didn't drive the car very much, probably less than 10,000 miles. Over the past 10 years it was mainly in the garage, just getting out every so often to stretch and get some air.
The car is still in great shape. Its like brand new. This car is definately not a fixer-upper The paint is beautiful just like the day it was sprayed. The motor runs & sounds great. Its a blast to drive, its very quick and handles like a dream. The odometer hasn't read properly since the tranny was replaced, speedometer reads about 15 mph faster than your going. The true mileage is some where around 110k. It has the normal aging issues... don"t we all... the front seat covers need to be replaced. The door lock actuators stick sometimes. Some of the weather stripping is starting to crack. The left front grill is cracked. All pretty minor stuff. The body and underbody is solid. The motor is strong. All in all this car will make it's new owner very happy. It's a head turner... It's a classic that will only appreciate in value.
This car is not a fixer-upper... It has been professionally restored and repowered. So, Please bid accordingly, don't waste your time bidding $2600... I'll give you a hint... the reserve is a little higher... By the way the last picture below is my wife and I back in 1989.
