This is a very well built modified KZ-1000, designed for street racing. If youre looking for an old school muscle bike, that performs better than new, this is the perfect ride. At first glance it appears mostly stock, but as you look more closely you notice lots of trick bits. Everything was built to a very high standard.

Riding this bike is alot of fun, especially if youre a fan of these classic air cooled Kawasaki's. There is just something about the sound and power delivery that modern bikes cant match. Im not claiming it can out perform a modern liter bike, or even a 750 for that matter. Its sort of like comparing a 1967 Shelby GT-500 to the modern one. Alot more character for sure. At the same time, I dont recommend this bike for a novice rider, or someone expecting modern performance. Simply because these machines were always weak in the braking and handling department, and if youre used to riding something newer, you will likely be dissappointed. I highly recommend it for someone who is familiar with these bikes because this one is built and performs the way they should have back then. I own a couple of stock KZ-1000's as well, and when you ride them compared to this, you dont want to ride them anymore. This one has what feels like twice the torque of a stocker. I believe the stock engine produces about 90 crankshaft hp, and Im told this one would be somewhere around 125hp. In first gear, and even second gear on cold tires you have to be very easy on the throttle, or it will simply light up the rear tire. The throttle response from the Mikunis is immediate - there is no lag like with a CV carb. Transmission shifts smoothly, and there is no gear noise. The torque is arm straightening to say the least, and the bike would benefit from a racing solo seat with a back pad to help keep you in the bike. As I said, the sound is nothing like the high pitched wail of a modern water cooled four. Much deeper and raspier with lots of mechanical noise from the valve train. And the Mikunis make a fair amount of induction noise as well. Again, if youre a fan of these bikes, you get my drift.
I bought this bike about 2years ago on Ebay. It was presented to me much the way i am describing it here. Unfortunately, the old saying " Let the buyer beware" was certainly applicable to the purchase. The bike looked pretty much the same, and the major mods were all done. But the motor was a tired, smoky old thing. When we dissassembled the motor, we found all pistons to be partially seized, and the head was loaded with glass beading material. Whoever built the motor hadnt taken the time to purge the material, which is like having sand inside the motor, grinding everything up as you ride. In addition to that, the head wasnt port matched. So we went about building a proper street motor that would be bullet proof, yet make some serious power. I spent over $3,000 on the engine alone, and have the reciepts to prove it. Since then, Ive only put 300 miles on it, so its essentially still not broken in fully yet. Tires and brakes needed replacing as well.
It rides absolutely perfect. it has the best components available, and no expense was spared. You can ride around all day at moderate speeds, and the bike behaves as stock, running cool with perfect carburetion. Idle is highr then stock due to the cams, but thats about it. The Air shifter allows full throttle upshifts without the clutch. it operates by flipping a small toggle switch to engage air shifter mode. Turn the switch off, and it shifts normally using the clutch.
Included with the bike are the stock 28mm CV carbs, and a factory stock decal kit for the tank, tail, and side covers. There is one small paint blemish on the tail where it appears the stripe is lifting off the black. Not noticeable unless you really look, and it isnt going to come off anytime soon. This bike is a steal at this price. You cant come close to building a bike of this caliber for less than $10,000 including the price of the bike. I have way more invested than my asking price. Im selling it for two reasons. First, I need to sell something, and Id rather keep my stock ones. Second, this bike is not for the faint of heart. I live in a high traffic area, and its just a matter of time before Im going too fast to avoid the guy in front of me pulling out. The stockers are safer in that they just dont generate the speed this one will.
