Rare Original Owner AS NEW OEM Black on White 1992 Ducati 900ss Café Racer
This is truly a collectors dream. As you can tell from the images I take very, very, very good care of my toys. I am the original owner of this highly sought after and desired bike. 99.9% of the Ducati’s made were Red and Yellow. To boot dealers had trouble selling the black on white color scheme and painted most of the black on whites Red or Yellow forever destroying the value. This Duck is unmolested less a couple modifications I made when purchased new “yes I purchased this bike new in 1991.” I have been told that today as few as 3 and as many as 13 of the Black on White Café Racers exist. What I do know for certain this is the best example with the lowest miles.
This 900ss Café Racer was jetted and had a smaller sprocket installed by Ducati in 1992. When I purchased this bike new I also had the larger carburetor installed and a carbon fiber exhaust. This bike is extremely loud and still rides and looks new. All original parts I.e. Sprocket and Carburetor that I had changed when I bought the bike are included with this auction. Sorry I no longer have the 1992 exhaust cans but they can be found here on EBay for very little.
This 900ss is also special because 1992 was the last year of the white frame and wheels. Very few bikes were produced in black on white let alone the Café Racer. This stunning example is the most sought after style “Café Racer” and color combination. This Duck is unmolested, never been down, and in as new condition. Just look at the images even the original stickers are still on the gas tank, swing arm, fairings, and windscreen. Of course there is a scratch here and there the bike is 17 years old as well as a slight rash on the carbon fiber exhaust right side from shipping but this is just about unnoticeable. I would not do anything to mend a minor scratch “from age and normal wear and tear” as this could hurt the overall value and appeal of the bike. Just telling you as to be honest and clear. The pictures speak for themselves most bikes with only a few hundred miles have more wear and tear.
If you have made it this far you are likely wondering how does it run and why am I selling it? I am selling the bike to make room for other bikes in my collection and because I do not have the time to ride as I once did. This bike is 17 years old and should, at the least, be ridden weekly. I do not have that kind of time to ride nor care for my bikes as I once did.
Mechanically the bike is as new. It just underwent a “one-year” full mechanical rebuild by Ducati; which cost thousands of dollars. The rebuild/recondition included engine, carburetor, clutch, transmission, clean etch and re-seal of the inside of the gas tank, new lines, all new fluids, fuses/electronics, new battery, battery lines, all seals, filters, etc. If you think of it was likely rebuilt and if it needed fixed it was fixed. In essence things happen to any bike “when older” if they sit so needed some attention. In giving it attention I went all the way. Why do something if your not going to do it right? Now this Duck is running as if it is brand new.
My Duck is currently registered in Pebble Beach CA current through 9/2010. I can recommend a shipper that I have used many times if you need some assistance. Payment is due in full and must have cleared prior to pick up or delivery of the Duck. A $1000.00 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of the auctions end. Payment can be by wire, official verifiable bank check, or personal check. I just sold my 2006 749D without a problem and expect the same here. I suggest inspecting the bike prior to bidding or using a company to do an inspection for you. Please do not bid if you do not have the money. Your bid is a legally binding contract. If you have any questions please ask.
