95 SATURN SC2 ELECTRIC ,converted at clark automotive electric vehicle conversions. electric heat , manual brakes and steering , fully enclosed wheel wells and underside BFGS 144 volt system, twelve 155 amp hr trans con batteries just over a year old still preform well , warp 9 electric motor , curtice 1231 c controller, Zivan high frequency charger high power electric breaker and manual break away ( for extra safty ) , pactraker battery monitoring system , this conversion retained the clutch for extra safty and ease of shifting ( but is not neccessary to use ) will start easy in 2nd gear just push the accelerator and go ! 5v referance pointameter. has new clutch , new brakes incluing calipers , new struts and springs , very well balanced with 4 batteries in front 6 in middle and 2 in rear , have had this car going over 90 mph ! engineering considerations : 6-8 hp is required for each 1000 lbs of weight after conversion , a 3000 lb car requires a motor rated for at least 20 hp ,more hp is needed for for higher speed ,heavier loads , and steeper grades. the available hp of a motor increases with voltage . as the voltage increases the rpms increase. hp is a funtion of rpms x torque. electric motors are rated as continuous but the motor can run at less : for example if only 10 hp is required for the speedc, then the motor runs at the reduced load . this is what the motor controler does , highway speeds require more hp. for example the hp required @ 70 mph is 4 times the hp required at 35 mph resulting in less range . it takes around 15 lbs of lead to get one mile of vehicle range A lead acid battery has 70% of its weight in lead , So for a range of 50 miles you need around 1050 lbs of lead acid batteries. the 20 hr battery rate is how many amp hrs a fully charged battery can provide in a 20 hr period. the 75 amp rating is the number of minutes it takes a battery to go from fully charged to 1.75 vols per cell , using a 75 amp discharge @ 80 degreese f. a typical electric vehicle battery has a 20 hr rate of 155 amp hrs and a 75 min amp rating of 77 mins. twelve ( 12 volt ) batteries conected in series results in 144 nominal volts for the system . battery weight of 90 lb each =1080 lbs for twelve 95 saturn vehicle parameters 3400 lbs with batteries drag coefficent of .03 warp 9 dc motor, curtice 1231c high power heavy duty MOSFET motor speed controller ( 96 -144 volts ) 155 amp hr 20 hr rate @ 77 min 75 amp hr rate batteries . range example at 30 mph at zero grade 4 hp is required 25 amps is required , 222 mins motoring time is available est range 111 miles . at 60mph @ zero grade 15 hp is required ,91 amps is required 57 min of motoring time is available and 57 miles of range . note range decresses with uphill grade and frequant stopping and starting .
