This 1988 AC MKIV Autokraft Cobra roadster was completed by AC Cars in 1988 and was finished in red exterior with saddle tan leather. These cars were of course made of aluminum just like the earlier Cobras, in fact in the same factory and with the same tooling as those AC provided to Carroll Shelby. It features the factory 5 speed Borg Warner T5 transmission and 302 Ford V8 engine with electronic fuel injection. The car was ordered new by a California car collector from Frontier Ford an authorized AC/Autokraft dealer in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The first owner specially ordered the car with many personal touches and had AC Cars in England, and the delivering dealer dial the car in to his personal specs. The original engine was removed shortly after delivery and placed in a crate and replaced by a Roush injected small block producing well over 300hp. AC Cars fitted the wheels with true knock off spinners to replace the original hex head nuts. The car comes with all of the items associated with the delivey of the car including 2 tonneau covers, the original knock off nuts, tonneau bag, soft top, spare tire, knockoff hammer, Cobra visors, wood AC shift knob, low style rear view mirror and of course the original engine still crated up comes with it! The car comes with an impressive list of documentation including the original window sticker, and much correspondence with Brian Angliss of AC Cars. It includes letters to and from the factory and Frontier Ford in Kansas during the ordering and delivery process. This is a fantastic example of a truly historic point in time and represents a great value when compared to the 6 and 7 figure prices commanded by the earlier AC Cobras. The car is well documented and is listed in the Shelby American World Registry. This is an historically significant sportscar which is a joy to drive. Don't miss it.
