DESCRIPTION

TONZ™ FPCs are eight factory packaged basecoat colors selected by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and endorsed by Dale Earnhardt Inc.. 8 TONZ™ Basecoat is an easy-to-apply, fast-drying basecoat that uses unique state of the art resin technology that results in improved application, drying, and overall basecoat / clearcoat performance. 8 TONZ™ Basecoat is easy to apply and can be clearcoated in as little as 15 minutes. 8 TONZ™ Basecoat/Clearcoat System offers exceptional clearcoat gloss holdout and distinctness of image, while providing excellent clearcoat to basecoat adhesion.

SUBSTRATES

Properly prepared and cleaned: OEM finishes, aged refinishes, and Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes sealers and surfacers.

MIXING

APPLICATION

1. Apply 2-3 medium wet coats plus a low-pressure mist coat*.

2. Allow 5 minutes flash time between coats.

3. Allow to flash 15-20 minutes before clearcoating.

4. If not clearcoated in 7 days, scuff sand basecoat and reapply.

HVLP 6 - 8 psi

Siphon Feed 35 - 45 psi

Fluid Nozzle 1.3 - 1.5 mm

DRYING

Air Dry Times at 70°F

Dust Free 10 minutes

Tape Free 15-30 minutes

To Apply DER20 Clearcoat 15-20 minutes

SANDING OUT IMPERFECTIONS

To sand out imperfections after 15 minutes, wet sand 600 grit or

finer to remove dust, dirt and to level surface. Must re-base with one or two coats of basecoat.

NOTE: Ranges based on single panel. For spot repairs, move one solvent faster. For multiple panels move one solvent slower.

*LOW-PRESSURE MIST COAT

After hiding is achieved and the basecoat has been allowed to flash to a dull appearance, apply an optional low pressure mist coat at 5 psi air cap pressure for HVLP or 25 to 30 psi for a conventional gravity feed gun by increasing gun distance to 10 -12 inches to achieve a wet droplet appearance. This will help uniform metallic / mica particles. The low-pressure mist coat is also used when blending into the original finish. For small repairs apply basecoat at 20 - 30 psi to minimize overspray; a low pressure drop coat is not required in this case.
