This manual was written by SunCoast Conversions (www.suncoastconversions.com) a leading supplier of JAGUAR V-8 conversion kits and related components for over 20 years. For more than 15 of those 20 years, we have been providing this manual to our customers who were doing Jaguar V-8 conversions utilizing TPI Fuel Injected engines.

This TPI Manual came into being because many of our V-8 conversion customers were interested in using TPI engines in the JAGUAR V-8 conversion process, but were hesitant to use a TPI system because of it's apparent complexity and the lack of appropriate information relative to both adapting the system to a non-factory application,and also at the same time, eliminating the unneccessary circuits that are not always needed in a  JAGUAR V-8 conversion, or for that matter, a Street Rod, '57 Chevy, or whatever type of project car someone may be interested in upgrading to a TPI system! Our Manual was assembled to respond  to these concerns and to answer as many questions as possible that relate to the "nuts and bolts" procedures involved with the use of a TPI system in any vehicle other than the ones in which it was factory equipment.

Examples of the circuits/systems not needed in all installations would be the AIR system, EGR system, VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) system, Evaporative Canister Control system, Park/Neutral switch-circuit, Coolant Fan Control circuit, etc. Information on using or deleting these circuits/systems on an individual basis without compromising the integrity or operating efficiency of the balance of the TPI system is one of the major areas in which our manual is superior to other  sources of information, such as factory service manuals. While, as we are quick to explain in Part One of our Two Part manual, "GM Service Manuals offer the definitive source of information on TPI systems", we must point out that they are geared to diagnosing and repairing systems which are factory installed and are NOT intended to explain in detail the how, what, when, where & why of installing and wiring a TPI system into a vehicle for which it was not designed. Neither, do they contain information relative to eliminating some or all of the unnecessary systems or circuitry.

Our manual draws its information from our hands-on installation experiences, numerous automotive performance periodicals and automotive trade publications, as well as GM service manuals and technical training courses.

All of the information in our manual is specifically oriented to the 1985 through 1989 TPI systems that use a MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor.

The 1990 thru 1992 TPI systems, commonly referred to as "Speed Density" systems do not use a MAF and are limited to use with the specific displacement engine on which they are installed.

While the 1985 system also uses a MAF sensor, it is a one-year-only system electronically, in that it uses a different ECM,relays, and attendant connectors than the later 1986 to 1989 units and its self-diagnostic capabilities are less sophisticated, and slower than the later systems. Much of the information in our manual can also be applied to the 1985 system. However, since the ECM terminal locations, color codes, and various other details are different from the 1986 to 1989 systems, it is necessary to have a 1985 GM Wiring Schematic  available to assist you in making all the wiring connections. Manuals sold to individuals who are working with a 1985 system, will include the necessary 1985 wiring schematic!
