The last Concept Sky Commuter aircraft in Existence Print Version
Description (revised)
Vehicle Description

Please see here for your consideration the very last Sky Commuter Prototype test craft that remains in existence today.

The development of this advanced technology and project started back in the mid 1980's. Design and engineering was created by Boeing engineer's in Arlington Washington. Some 60 investors and well over $6,000.000.00 in R&D and production yielded only (3) concept test ships before the plant was shut down for reasons not listed here. The sad end was all and anything that was in the hangar was taken and or destroyed. This sole example of this technology, Advancements and investments are present and was saved in this single craft. The ship was not at the base location at the time or it to would have been destroyed.

This is the only registered aircraft with the FAA as a VTOL class and carries the correct tail number of N2001C. All aircraft materials and built by the finest. The craft is 14 feet long and 8 foot wide at the front Canard winglets and the rear outer fan rims.

The ship is made of the same advanced composite materials as The Gossamer Cotidor and The Vovager. Stronger than steel pound for pound and unbelievable light weight. The Sky Commuter you see here weighs in around 400 pounds or less! Still wearing it's original paint and showing little wear from the many years of storage and sporting it's original interior complete in remarkable condition. This is the ship that was used in Air shows and Magazines and newspapers for PR and to gain investors for the company. Complete photo history and documented company letters on letterhead and more will be forwarded with this rare craft. There are photos of all The Thunderbird pilots in and posing with this Sky Commuter.

In a brief description of the ship: It has a operational electric gas assisted lexan bubble canopy. Electric controled directional driving and landing lights. Electric Joystick and two foot pedals on both side and the craft was meant to be controlled from either seat. Advanced front dash shell made of Carbonfiber and Kevlar. Rear engine and electronics bay accessible by tilting seats forward and removing the back panel. (3) huge 3 foot lifting fans CCW/CW rotation. This was made to take off in vertical fight and land. It can be landed on water and float like a boat and take off of water. The targeted dream was to lift above it all and not deal with the daily gridlock traffic. Nearly at the finish line it all came to a abrupt stop and all the years and investment and R&D and production, Remains in this one craft shown here.

There is much more to say and list but it would be a History lesson to having the largest investment jump on R&D to continue this Quest. I will discuss this to interested parties. I am hoping that it will be acquired by a museum for display or a serious firm that will complete the dream that was started.

All history, Rights and the Sky Commuter it's self is being offered here. This is a very rare chance to aquire such a investment. And I can assure you that NO ONE else is going to have anything that is even close to this. It stops traffic everywhere and the biggest crowd pleaser I have ever owned. It has a new custom trailer that goes with it that was created just for transpotation of this ship. I have only moved it a couple of times in public and that was a experence in it's self.

Any questions at all Please Email me and I will return all contacts as quickly as I can. BonusClick@aol.com

Thank You.

Please understand that this is NOT a backyard or Garage created aircraft. This was created from a Corporation that had very prestigious members and funding. The finest craftsmen and materials were used on this new technology advancement. As I have had the honor of even being able to research the ships history and to learn the means, Capital and prominent people involved just amazes me. To study the craft in detail is a lesson in it's self as the fit and finish is not like most concept crafts. This craft is remarkably as a production line craft would be and for the most part functional after learning the power source.

It was created to lift off and fly to it's destination and set down and then drive on the road to it's location and park like a car or placed in a garage like I have it in under my house. Same as if it was on the water and needed to drive up the boat ramp or shore out of the water.

Hello and I am overwhelmed in the interest and Emails I am getting and helping me in the research of this aircraft.

First I want to make it clear that it is possible to lift off and get off the ground. The balance of the flight is what made the first two ships lose control. This is 18 years ago and old technology that was available but this ship was the cutting edge then. Going into areas never covered before. With the R&D that has come before us in the recent years this ship is the perfect example to make free flight possible. Yes you can make this ship leave the ground and even 10 feet or higher. But it is not stable and needs more research to continue this endeavor. I want no one to get hurt and I am making it very clear that this concept aircraft that is shown in this auction is possible to make lift off and clear the ground but the research stopped there. The reason this ship survived is because it was not put into testing. I am posting here with this input and a untouched Email from a person that knows of this craft and you can see first hand his opinion. I have no reason to not believe him as it correlates with my research.

This Sky Commuter and all it's R&D and any copyrights go with this aircraft. This is the best chance to get a huge start on some one else’s hard work and investment at a fraction of the cost and continue this quest.

Moller Skycar is 30 years into the R&D of their craft and $88,000,000.00 later and still on a tether at the same height the Sky Commuter has lifted to.

Dear pro-amc,

Let me enlighten you.30 years ago I worked for Payne Aerospace on joint task with Grumman and Westinghouse..specialty,VTOL and UHLCADS(ultra high level containerized air drop systems).Technology at that time was developing Graphite and Kevlar combinations to be used in military aps..your designer,Fred Barker,Boeing engineer, had built a "MOCK" up,show investor craft to display at an adv composites conference and Expo in Detroit in 1990. Purely a dog and pony show for the bean counters,it worked...the show that is!! In all it's development, this craft has never been more than 10 feet off the ground and ALL the flight tests were crash failures. They had overcome many issues but could not get away from power/rate/control issues.Years of testing..never a safe mode flight. While this was a well respected concept craft,I would strongly urge you to state that ANY proposed flight would be dangerous at best.Hover??,maybe, flight? ,no way.Still belongs in the Smithsonian though!!

Here is a link to my Webshots site that shows it in the museum before I picked it up. Some photos show it with the parts off as I was getting it ready for it's 300 mile trip home. I have only one of the original side scoop vents. The side scoops on the ship now are made of fiberglass that I hand formed to work on the ship and look in place. They turned out nice and function.

In the museum photos you will see the left side aircraft entry latch is tapped over. They did not know how to make the canopy shut and secure it's self as there was no power in the ship. Gas shocks assist in the opening of the big window. To get in release on the latch on the left side, This unlocks the pins and very lightly lift the canopy. Get in and there is a 2 way rocker switch that raises these electric screw pins that come out about 8 inches on both sides. Lower the bubble and it meets these pins and latches, Then the rocker switch takes the canopy from there and lowers it into the perfect closed position.

When getting out, Do the same process but to lower the bubble there is a hidden switch inside the side scoop that operates the lowering. This is the same button that was in it when I got it. Took a while to locate it and only through following wires around did I find it. Top fits and works like new now!

Here is the link to more photos but not nearly as many as I have. I have original color brochures and data spec sheets and much more.

I want to add this and be sure that this is clear and no gray areas. This has been talked about in the Q&A section of this auction but I want to say it very clear.

This is the last Concept Sky Commuter there is. It was not brought to the lift off testing stage as it was the PR show ship and was used to perfect the computer assisted programs that was to be used in these aircraft. It looks as if it did indeed have motors in it but there are none now. I have machined new parts for the rotor heads (not altering the originals) and have it setup to have 3,450 RPM AC electric motors put in only to demonstrate it is capable to run the lifting fans. It will not lift off with these motors. It had a custom black leather covered dash shell in it when I got it. The dash had a few holes in it where it was most likely from testing different components and a few other areas that I did not like and wanted to repair. I carefully removed the leather cover and saved it. I repaired the dash holes and reinstalled the old time monitor tube that was in it. It is not functional. The other two panels I made and more so fit this ship and ready to be connected to whatever sources may be installed. I most likely will install the electric motors and have it to the point I wanted it be at. It is wired and ready for this. The lights work and the directional motor to change the position and works great, The canopy system works great. The two sets of pedals on both sides really do operate and steer the front wheel. There is the piston casters behind the pedals. The rear rims and tires are aircraft grade and have disc brakes but not connected. The flaps and rudder are correctly installed and move freely but not connected to anything. The end brackets are present waiting for being hooked up.

I will post more photos of one of the lost test ships today. It was white with blue stripes and you can see the difference from that earlier ship and my ship. Mine was the only one that had the one piece lexan canopy. there is no damage or imperfections in the canopy and the only one there is.

This is a one off Concept craft. It has a wide open future and can be many dreams or reality for someone. I erge any serious interested parties to contact me and ask questions if you are not sure about something. I am upfront and honest and will tell it like it is. This good history here and documented and I have gone as far as I want to and now it needs to find a home that will take care and preserve it. I did not paint it as it is the original paint that was shown in the publications. It needs touched up from small scuffs but shows well.

Thank You

Hello, I have Emails that I can't sort through due to the selling of this Concept craft. I doubt it will be offered again when finding it's home.

I had to make the bidding to serious parties as this is a rare chance to aquire this bit of history. I want to avoid children bidding as if a game and I do not agree with someone popping in and out and retracting bids just to see what the highest bidder has bid (twice). Any interested parties that wish to bid needs to contact me first Please. By going through Ebay it protects myself and the bidders. I have removed the right to sell outside the auction and it will go the distance on Ebay. All sales or offers outside of Ebay are now void.  I Thank everyone that has forwarded what bit of information you knew about this concept craft. Even this auction will be printed and remain as part of the Sky Commuter history.

I loaded it up today and took it to meet two local pilots that requested to see it in person. After they reviewed it I asked and I wanted them to be honest good or bad of what they thought. They right away said they were expecting something in bad condition. In the half hour meeting there were no less than 30 people stop and  want to see and know about it. The pilots actually started helping me explain to the crowd. Good guys! And Thank You.

Good Luck to the bidders and Thank You for looking.

Steve
