This is a rare, 1978 right-hand-drive diesel Toyota Landcruiser BJ40 (the diesel version of the FJ40) in great condition. She runs great and looks great. This has had some cosmetic work but NOT been "restored" in the true sense. I have not had the need to do a lot of mechanical work to it, so I don't have much info on that side of the coin. The right-hand-drive is fun to drive. The shift pattern and pedals are in the same configuration as a standard left-hand-drive. The only difference is that the turn signal switch is on the right rather than the left. I do have the Toyota repair manual for this and some miscellaneous supplies that will go with the vehicle.
Since 2004 all of the glass and window seals have been replaced, a 2" HFS lift installed, new Cooper off-road tires, added the roll bars, new brakes & water pump. Many of the gaskets and hoses have been replaced. New headliner (the headliner is sagging along the back), visors, and mirrors installed. I installed a Tuffy locking center console. The dash is new and the truck has gotten a relatively quick paint job. This does NOT have A/C or power steering (it is "assisted" power steering--which is a generous term) and it has a 24V electrical system. Parts have been easy to get.
There is very little rust and I have tried to highlight what there is in the photos. She runs great and smooth, accelerates nicely, and gets 20+MPG. The odometer reads in Km/Hr & not MPH. It has approx. 131K kilometers (82K miles) on the engine. This is a great truck that really turns heads. It is not in pristine condition but certainly excellent for her age and for not having undergone a frame-off restoration. There is nothing mechanically wrong with it that I know of.
This was imported into the U.S. a little over 4 years ago. The VIN has been verified and it is titled, registered, and inspected in TX and I have a clear title. We do not have to do an emissions inspection in TX for a vehicle over 25 years old, so if you are in an area where you do, you might want to check that out.
