DON'T LET THE SALVAGE TITLE SCARE YOU A salvage title can mean a lot of different things, and in this case it simply means that after a minor accident the insurance company thought that it could save money by selling the car at auction rather than paying for repairs. I bought this car (and another hybrid also) from someone who bought cars like this at auction when he recognized that they wouldn't be too hard to fix. He explained to me that insurance companies have been afraid to fix hybrids simply because they are not familiar with them, and so they prefer to just unload them at auction. That's all the salvage title means in this case. It had minor body damage that has been fully repaired. The guy I bought it from did great body and
paint work and used all original Toyota parts so you would never guess
that the car has had any work done at all. Some states will give a car a normal title once it's been repaired and inspected as this one has been, but Pennsylvania and New Jersey--the two states where this car has been titled, require that a car keep a salvage title forever. The car has had a salvage title since July of 2007--over 27 months--and in that time it has logged over 23,000 miles with no problems other than normal maintenance. Before I bought this car I
took it to a Toyota dealer, told them it had a salvage title, and had
them do a complete inspection. They couldn't find anything wrong
with the car at all. If you are interested in the car I invite you to
get the same kind of inspection--I guarantee that they will not find
anything wrong with the car.
DON'T LET THE MILEAGE SCARE YOU 128 k is not a lot of miles for this engine. There are lots of first generation Prius cars on the road now with 300k or more. Toyota's hybrid engines are proving to be extremely durable. This car has always been well-maintained. It is running great now, and it should go many more years with no trouble.
Some minor problems: (1) The heater and ac both work great but the temperature switch works like an on/off switch--at the 66 click the AC turns off and the heater turns on, at the 65 click the heater turns off and the ac turns on. (2) The case for the rear view mirror on the driver's side started to crack and that was repaired with epoxy. It holds fine now and the repair is hard to see unless you're looking for it. (3) A few paint scuffs and scratches, again nothing major and nothing very noticeable unless you are looking for them, and nothing unusual for a 6-year old car. The pictures below expand when you click them so you can get a good look at the car's appearance inside and out. Cash (and by
