'70 Triumph w '78 T140 5 speed motor chopper bobber
Vehicle Description
This is a 1970 Triumph front loop with a 1978 T140 750cc 5
speed engine and a David Bird hardtail. This bike was built by Kyle to do some
demo tech articles and to try out some new products. The bike has a clear Ohio
title, which is titled to the motor not the frame. There are custom motor mount
plates as the ’78 engine has the shifter on the left and brake on the right, so
a different rear wheel was used to allow this brake setup as well. This bike
was also featured in CyleSource magazine for the Lowbrow Customs DIY Tips section
on building your own exhaust pipes. The motor VIN is perfect and unaltered, as is the VIN on the frame. The frame and motors are obviously not matching numbers because of the year difference, the number on the frame is BD40225.
This bike runs but has not been gone through other than the
5 speed transmission being rebuild and re-indexed. It needs to be dialed in and
tuned properly before street use. The front brake also needs some work,
possibly new shoes, since it stops but unevenly. It will also need the
headlight and tail light wired up though the bike includes a brand new Podtronics
unit already mounted and an installed brake light switch. Just a couple wires
to the Podtronics and the stator and you’re set.
This bike features a ton of great parts including:
David Bird hardtail, 4” stretch, 0” drop
Brand new Coker Firestone tires front and back
Brand new Joe Hunt magneto
cloth plug wire set
polycarbonate clear magneto cover
Biltwell Black Diamond solo seat
Biltwell black chromoly seat pivot
Maund Speed Cast
aluminum finned velocity stacks
Maund Speed Cast aluminum carb extensions
Maund Speed cast aluminum quadrant liscence plate mount
Brand new pair of 930 Amal Carburetors
Biltwell 7/8” Clubman handlebars
NOS Gran Turismo grips
A ‘72 front end with the conical brake hub setup and earlier
trees/stem to fit the ’70 frame
New Podtronics rectifier
Cali Choopers Aluminum oil tank
Custom fabricated exhaust system
Brass exhaust tips
Bates Headlight
Add up the retail on just the parts on this bike and
you have more than the reserve for this running, riding Triumph motorcycle.
Kyle’s lost interest in this bike will nab you a great project, this bike is
basically done, with a little TLC you can have a cool, fast 750 c.c. 5 speed
Triumph with some trick parts. This bike is available for pick up, or you can arrange shipping. I have contact info for a great shipping company I have used a bunch of times to ship from Ohio to Los Angeles and back and they cost around $450 - $500 door to door delivery in an enclosed trailer.
On Nov-02-09 at 13:18:48 PST, seller added the following information:
I forgot to mention, there is a shallow dent on top of the tank, and there is a small spot near the one rear mounting tab where the paint bubbled, I would guess it is a small leak in the one seam. It isn't bad but needs to be fixed.
On Nov-06-09 at 10:24:56 PST, seller added the following information:
Q: Nice bike. Is the front end raked or extended? Could use a few more pictures, close-ups and straight profiles from both sides would help.
Thanks, A: Hi, no the front end is not raked or extended, it is stock. We will be adding a bunch more photos tomorrow, I need to snap some more close up photos and will add em all ASAP
Thanks
