This is a 1974 VW Westfalia Camper bus. It is the first model year with a full bed up top in the pop top so this one sleeps 4 adults comfortably. I would feel comfortable and confident driving this bus anywhere in the Country.

The bus is in great, original condition. It was owned by the original owner up until last Fall. The original owner was in the navy and back in '74 he special ordered this pop top and then went out to sea. When he came back a year later the bus was waiting for him at the dealership. This one was ordered without a cabinet in the back so there is more room for the bed.

The original owner has taken meticulous care of this bus perhaps as a result of his military background. Either way the bus has been very well cared for and every receipt since new comes with the bus! The odometer reads 79590 but receipts show the actual mileage is 179590. There is a receipt for a new engine at around 120k miles so the engine has only about 60k miles on it. I recently had it serviced so now it should be nice and dry without leaking any oil. It now has a new, single barrel carburetor that runs and idles great.

The body is in all original paint except the nose and front doors. The front was painted a long while back perhaps to fix paint chips. I have a friend who had a camper bus in the 70s and his had a lot of stone chips on the nose even though it was only a few years old. There is no sign of any accidents ever and the bus is nearly rust free. There are a few small spots where rust is starting but the frame and floors and rockers are very impressive for its age. It's a great example of an original Westfalia.

The bus is Yosemite Yellow with a blue and green plaid interior. The interior is all original and it is nearly perfect. The interior includes a matching stool and a cute matching little box cupboard that fits between the front seats. The rear seat folds down into a bed. The bed in the pop top has a small hole (and I should vacuum it) but other than that the interior is in very impressive, original condition. The screens in the pop top have a few tears from age but the canvas is still in decent shape.

The bus has RV hookup and there is a nice extension cable that comes with the bus (it is shown in the videos on my Sunset Classics Web Site). My VW mechanic friend is going to give the stove the once-over to make sure it is in safe, operating condition before the bus leaves. I will have him look at the sink as well since I have not tried it. I have not tried to hook up a second battery for the fridge but I have used it as an ice box and it works well.

I was planning to keep this one forever(!) but I recently realized that my collection of classic VWs has gotten way out of hand (I have around 15! plus a few other classics as well) so I have decided to let someone else enjoy this rare and beautiful find.

Personalized plates on vehicles (if any) belong to the owner of record and cannot be included with the vehicle.

A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours of the auction close (acceptable via Paypal). The remaining balance is due within 72 hours of the close of auction, unless other arrangements were made. Accepted payment methods are bank wire transfers, cashier's checks, cash in person and money orders. If you wish to obtain financing, please do so ahead of time. We reserve the right to end the auction early. We also reserve the right to verify any or all bids to ensure exceptional auction integrity. Please do not ask the reserve amount, as we will not disclose this information.

Transportation expenses are the sole responsibility of the buyer. We cannot be held liable for any problems or damages arising from or due to transportation handling. The buyer is responsible for all shipping charges and fees from point of sale to the final destination. In addition, it is the buyers responsibility to arrange & coordinate shipping. We are happy to provide a list of transporters.
