1970 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Volkswagen camper 1970, California car. The bus has the rare original cab bunk, the single bunk in the roof, it has a rock and roll bed in the back still in the original tan material, all the original cabinets are in great shape. The cool box has the original shelf still inside, the sink is in good condition although the water tap and filler cap have both broken. The original mirror is still inside the wardrobe door and it is unbroken! The carpet the camping area could be the original it is pretty dirty and could do with a good clean or being replaced. The front seats are original and both are ripped and dirty (40 years old !) the dash is in good shape, it has the factory optional deluxe clock. All other switches and gauges are present. The front cab rubber mat is unripped and in great condition. The wooden roof liner is in amazing condition. The poptop canvas looks like it is the original one and shows signs of ripping and damp in the corners, doing pretty good for a piece of 40 year old material! The body is in fair condition, it is 40 years old and looks like it has been used during its life. It has had a re-paint sometime in it's life ( i would guess at at least 10 years ago, maybe more) the re-paint isn't the greatest but it is shiny in places. It has scars of the road on most panels, scratches and dents here and there. The front panel is the worst by far. Both rear corners have filler in them. There isn't any rust in the cab floors, no rust in the sill panels, no rust in the chassis or belly pan sections. Underneath the bus is in great shape. Cab doors and slider are also in great shape. There are a couple of minor rust issues around the 1/2 moon cooling vent intake. It's certainly got that patina, ideal for a rolling resto or use as is! The engine is a 1600 (at a guess) with twin single choke carbs, a bugpack exhaust and electronic ignition. it runs like a dream, starts at a flick of the switch. Sweet as a nut. Transmission seems to be OK but i haven't driven it out on the road as the registration has expired. Things i have noticed so far for MOT:- 1 - track rod ends are shot 2 - no steering damper 3 - horn doesn't work 4 - washers don't work 5 - handbrake performance is poor I'm not saying thats all but this is what i have seen! This isn't a perfect bus but a good unrestored running driving rolling resto camper. price excludes shipping to the UK, I will help arrange that i can drop at docks for $150 on top.
