Vehicle History Report Summary for 1996 Volkswagen Passat Passat TDI
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Passat TDI is a reliable daily driver that gets an honest 45 MPG on average. Combine that with the ability to run up to 75% Waste vegetable oil and you have a car that will eventually pay for itself in fuel savings. The car has been converted using a single tank system which uses an inline fuel heater to heat the oil. You can also run 100% diesel if you wish by flipping a switch. Included with the car is a filtration system to filter the WVO. All you need to do is find a local restaurant to give you oil and you are set to go. I get 5 gallons a week from a local Chinese buffet where they are glad to get rid of the used oil. See the attached video for a demonstration of the car and of the wvo fuel filtration system. I am only the second owner of this Passatt TDI. It was well maintained by the original owner. I have converted 6 diesel engined cars to run on WVO now. The car has a new PA inspection. It has good tires brakes and shocks. I replaced a large part of the exhaust system for inspection. I would not be afraid to drive this car across the country tomorrow. It will be needing a routine timing belt change in roughly the next 5000 miles. Like many Passats from this model range the instrument dash was replaced along with the speedometer but the correct mileage was noted on a sticker in the door jam at the time of replacement. The mileage listed is accurate. The left front fender has some rust bubbles on it but it is sealed and stable. There are two small dents on the car. One on the drivers door and one by the left rear tail light. Neither is very noticeable and both be removed using a paintless dent removal services. To follow up on some questions: This car has a basic wvo system good down to about 40 degrees when running waste vegetable oil. To operate in colder weather than that you have to start using less wvo or add a heated tank and fuel lines. That adds more cost and complexity. I have found the most sensible way to use WVO is to keep it mixed with diesel, stick to a one tank system and avoid using it in cold weather. This gets you into the game at a low cost and preserves the longevity of the engine. Older TDIs that have been well maintained and converted to one tank WVO offer one of the best returns on investment of any car I know of today. Try getting your money back on the premium cost of a hybrid. Is there ever a payback? A low cost TDI should return its entire original cost in about four years. That is based on a fuel savings rate of about $1000 a year compared to a vehicle that gets 20 MPG and relies on 100% purchased petroleum. This Passatt TDI has a useful life of at least another 150,000 miles. That is more than ten years of driving for some people. Do the math on the fuel savings on that! What other car can literally pay dividends the longer you drive it? This is the very definition of a value car. Can anyone show me a more economical example? Shouldnt restaurant owners use these cars for delivery? Talk about exponential cost savings potential. They save coming and going with their own fuel source. I sold two cars to a restaurantuer in DC. He bought a Mercedes 300D and a Passatt from me. Later he sold the Mercedes for almost a thousand more than what he got it for. If fuel prices go up so does the price of these cars. You can make money upflipping these cars during fuel spikes as well. Do you think fuel prices are headed up or down? TDI prices will be sure to follow. I have a little story I like to tell about picking up vegetable oil from the Chinese restaurants. They like it when I come in to get the oil. First of all they have to pay to get rid of it normally. Plus I usually eat up at the bufett while Im in there and leave a nice tip to show my appreciation. Of course the reason why these buffetts are best is because of the high turnover of cooking oil that is relatively cleaner than other fried food establishments. For a while I had two places where I was picking up oil. But I was getting more oil than I could burn each week. It started piling up in the garage big time. I started making furniture out of the boxes to sit on. I contemplated getting someone to drive my car around just to use up the oil. I was afraid to stop picking up the oil because I didnt want to lose my supplier! There might be a sitcom episode in the making here somewhere. Someone already made a documentary about going cross country on WVO. On Nov-12-09 at 20:01:10 PST, seller added the following information: The previous owner must have had a lien on the car at one time which is showing up on the history report. I can assure you that there are currently no leins against the vehicle and I am holding a clear PA title.
On Nov-13-09 at 08:11:44 PST, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention I added a TCD power box made for VW TDIs. It adds more horsepower and torque by electronically altering the timing and fuel curves. It has an adjustment on it which I have set very conservatively because as it is the car can spin the wheell in second gear in the rain. Not that you would want to do that! Bwahaha! I also neglected to mention that the check engine light is on permanently. I have a hand held fault code detector that shows that the light is related to the catalytic converter. This is a well known fault code that almost always shows up on Passats from this era. VW fixed the code light problem on later models. It does not effect the cars performance or inspection status. Passats from this era have a cult following in the forums at www.tdiclub.com. There are answers to virtually any question regarding maintenance and repair issues. One thing is for certain. This is an extremely durable, comfortable and reliable car good for the long haul. Did I mention that the air conditioning, power sunroof, heater, power windows and cruise control are all in excellent working order. The premium audio system sounds excellent. There is a CD changer system in the trunk but the CD holder head is missing. Replacements are readily available. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
