Two wireless COLOR side mount flush mount cameras (left and right) can be added to the system for use whenever additional side viewing is required for safe driving and backing.  Each camera is operated by the vehicle's turn signals to provide seamless automatic camera switching in connection with the vehicle's turn signals.  The optional wireless side mount cameras are of the highest quality, use the same 1/3" COLOR Sharp^® CCD sensor as the standard camera, have a 120 degree wide angle lens with a 'mirror' image view, include infrared LED night vision illuminators, and a built-in 2.4 GHz transmitter.  (This camera does not include audio.)

WIRELESS SURFACE MOUNT CAMERA

The system includes one wireless COLOR camera, and is capable of monitoring up to four wireless COLOR cameras.  The additional 'surface mount' wireless camera is identical to the 'surface mount' wireless camera included with the complete system, except that it operates on a different frequency than the other camera.  The additional camera (only one can be added to this system) is very useful if you need separate cameras on a tow vehicle and trailer, or if you'd like to have a backup camera and an additional camera to monitor the activity behind a towed vehicle, inside a towed vehicle or trailer, or as a trailer hitch camera.

HIGH GAIN RECEIVER ANTENNA

The system comes standard with a flexible rubber antenna that attaches to the top of the monitor.  To extend the range of the system and reduce potential interference, and optional 5 dB high gain antenna is available.  This antenna includes a magnetic mount that can be attached to any internal or external steel body panel, and can also be attached to a non-steel surface using (customer supplied) double-sided tape or Velcro^®.

If ordered and paid for at the same time as the complete system, the optional 5 dB high gain antenna is available for an additional $50.00, including shipping and insurance.

IMPORTANT --- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

QUESTION:  Which is better, wired or wireless?

ANSWER:  The answer depends upon many factors.  I have a very strong personal preference toward wired.  If your vehicle doesn't permit the installation of a wired system (which is very rare), then a wireless system may be your only option.  Generally speaking, a wired system will provide a better picture than a wireless system, and in some cases, a wired system includes features that aren't available on a wireless system.  Although a wired system may require additional installation effort, it's almost always worth that extra installation effort for better long term performance.

QUESTION:  Will a wireless rear view camera system provide as good a picture as a wired rear view camera system?

ANSWER:  That depends which systems you're comparing, as well as other environmental factors.  I sell the very best wireless systems available anywhere, but the wired systems that I sell will provide a better picture than any wireless system under most 'real world' conditions.  The wireless systems that I sell will provide a better picture than many of the wired systems that are sold by others.  While the picture will likely be good most of the time, and generally sufficient for a rear view system, every wireless device (every one!) is susceptible to interference from outside sources.  Because a wireless system transmits a video image through the air, instead of through a cable, there can be some interference from a variety of sources, including electrical interference, high power radio and television transmitters, and many other sources encountered as the vehicle moves.  Think of it this way... When was the last time your home telephone 'dropped' a call?  Never!

QUESTION:  What is the transmitting range of this system?

ANSWER:  It's impossible to provide an exact quote regarding the range of any transmitter and receiver system.  There are too many variables for me to provide any guarantee of range.  The manufacturer of this system estimates an unobstructed range of up to 200 meters (656 feet).  However, my own experience leads me to estimate a 'real world' effective range in excess of 100 feet with minimal obstructions, which is more than enough for any typical motor vehicle installation.  The actual range may vary, depending upon the type of vehicle, installation locations, and many other factors.

QUESTION:  Another seller told me that wireless systems have a range of only 10 feet.  Is this true?  (Many people have contacted me to say that another seller is providing this false information.)

ANSWER:  It may have been true of the systems that seller was peddling, but that's nowhere near the range of the wireless systems I sell.  Most of the wireless systems that are sold on eBay are total junk.  Most were never intended to be used as a vehicle rear view camera system.  Most of the receivers were never designed to operate in that environment.  Most have flimsy directional antennas, that must be aimed directly between the camera and receiver, and that will break off easily.  The wireless systems that I sell were specifically built to be used as a vehicle rear view camera system, and have flexible rubber omni-directional antennas that don't need to be aimed.  (Just because someone else doesn't have a quality item for sale, don't let that person talk you out of buying one from me.)

QUESTION:  Will these wireless systems work on ALL vehicles?

ANSWER:  While they will work on most passenger vehicles, light trucks, sport utilities, recreational vehicles and trailers, there are some vehicles that may present problems.  Since the signal transmitted from the camera needs a relatively unobstructed path to reach the receiver, the materials used to build some vehicles and/or trailers may severely restrict that signal path.  Some vehicles or trailers (especially those constructed from heavy steel or aluminum) tend to severely inhibit a wireless radio frequency signal.  If the camera is mounted outside a vehicle that is constructed of metal, or within a confined space that is constructed of metal, and there are insufficient openings (such as windows) to provide an adequate signal path, the signal may be too weak to provide a high quality picture and/or audio, or the picture and/or audio quality may be intermittent.  You should check the available signal path between the camera and monitor (receiver) mounting locations.

QUESTION:  How will this work on MY vehicle?

ANSWER:  While this is the highest quality wireless rear view camera system available anywhere, a wireless system is not recommended for use on commercial type vehicles or any vehicle or trailer constructed using heavy gauge steel or aluminum.  As with any wireless device, certain materials (including steel, aluminum, and other metals) can significantly reduce the range of the radio signal.  The radio signal can also be affected by electrical interference, radio frequency emissions, environmental conditions, and other sources.  Therefore, while all range and performance information provided within the item description is accurate and intended to provide a useful estimate regarding transmission distance, no guarantee of range or performance is offered or implied.
