Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing. 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 has been a four year project of mine. Firstly, the odometer actually reads 61,281 kilometers (38,078 miles). This truck was located near Alberta, Canada, and was originally imported into Canada with the Canadian metrics on the dash. I have attempted to keep this truck true to it's original form as possible. When I was looking for a Cruiser years ago, I wanted a traditional FJ40 from the 1970's. Most of the trucks I had seen were dramatically altered either under the hood, or in body style. What I wanted was a fun warm weather truck, one that I could take to the beach. What we determined was the way to make an indestructible truck was to sell off the body kit, and make a new body kit out of fiberglass. We contacted a well respected land cruiser fiberglass body kit designer, and ordered a brand new body. With the engine having so few original miles we were able to pick and choose which body parts need/should be replaced. Over the course of the past three years we have replaced all hoses, brakes, and too many engine parts to list here. We converted the engine over to synthetic oil as well. We kept the original syle of tires, and rims. The few custom features are the truck were the ideas of the company that did the majority of the rebuild. We created a custom flip dash with lock (for storing a wallet, cellphone, or any other valuables you may want to leave in the truck). We also installed a full sized cooler into the floor of the truck. The cooler has a drain on the bottom and is perfect for storing food for the beach, or fresh caught fish on the way back from a trip. I intended for this truck to be a warm weather vehicle which would be driven during the Summer, or where it remains warm most of the year. Included in the sale of my truck is a bikini top, which I store in the cooler when it's not in use. Included also is a full size spare and rim, attached to the back of the truck. All the seats were wrapped in brand new nautical vinyl, and are water repellant. I can answer any questions you may have about the truck. It has spent the last 4 years fully garaged, and has been treated like a member of the family. We are selling this car to make room for my next project. Good luck. On Jan-17-12 at 07:49:01 PST, seller added the following information: Full list of work done on the intial rebuild: 1. purchase of donor truck in calgary 2. stripped body and drivetrain for refurbishing 3. Sand blasted frame Purchase and replaced the following in fiberglass: 4. fenders 5. fuel tank cover 6 tunnel cover 7 hood 8 rear half doors 9 front half doors 10 custom inside door panels 11 dash blank 12 tub 13 windshield frame 14 bib 15 bezel 16 hidden box rear 17 hidden custom dash Replaced the following parts non fiberglass: rear catches dakar lift kit new springs ss pin kit for front doors front signal lights front bumper factory rims (5) factory new hub caps rear tails hose kit alternator belt steel fan steering dampener rear fender flares rear side markers mirror heads mirror folding arms stainless steel fastners seat covering stereo and speakers and mounts mini truck power steering with custom mounting bracket exhaust work 2 1/2" aluminized pipe with a steel muffler painting 132 hours of labor on the intial rebuild. Since the initial rebuild converted over to synthetic replaced a few more hoses, and the last of the original electric. Once again the idea behind this build was to stay true to the traditional 2F engine and the beast that was/is the 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser. These are engines that are built to last 200,000-300,000 miles, and this truck is very much a baby. The truck has spent it's entire reburbished life in a garage, and had regular low mileage usage year round to keep it running smooth. Starts on the first turn every single time.
