1962 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

FABULOUS OPPORTUNITY TO GET A RESTORED FJ40 THAT LOOKS AND DRIVES AMAZING!

I obtained this incredible FJ40 from a friend of mine.  His partner restored this FJ40 for a client in 2009.  He stated that his client spent over $45,000 on the restoration process alone to make this one like the Icon FJ40s that done in California, which cost between $70,000- $110,000.  (The $45k spent is outside the cost of the FJ40 itself prior to the restoration, which he said was in good condition to begin with.)  His client traded in this FJ40 for another one (LWB). 

I have been driving this FJ40 for the past 2 months on sunny days.  It has been lots of fun.  This is a 4^th vehicle for me and I have a 2-year-old boy and another one due in March.  My wife has been on me to sell it since the day I brought it home.  She wins this round.

I have had this FJ40 on my brick pavers for over 60 days and I have not seen a drop of oil or any other fluid.  This one starts right up, even if sitting for over a week.  The engine, suspension, and clutch all feel great.

The gentleman that did the majority of the restoration (my friend’s partner) is genuinely excited about this FJ40.  He went on about how well this one came out and how he restored it keeping the original feel in tact.  He even pointed out the little details like the welds on the rear ¼ panels that were there when it came out of Toyota’s factory.  (Apparently many of the restored ones have lots of bondo that cover up these welds.  Not this one.) 

The only item that I found that may need attention includes a small blemish on the back panel on the passenger side--- see photo.  The gentleman that restored it said he is willing to repair it for $200.  Outside of that, he recommended having some of the hinges powdercoated black instead of the painted gray look.  He quoted $300 to take care of those.

Please do keep in mind that, as wonderful as this one shows, it is not a brand new vehicle.  It is going on three years since the restoration, which means that most of the “new” items are now three years of age.  Please do not expect a new or perfect vehicle.

The last FJ40 that I watched on ebay went to $38,100 without the reserve having been met. I believe this one looks much better and has better features than that one.  The FJ40 Ikon Cruisers start at $97,000.  I would keep this FJ40 if circumstances were different.  Given my situation, I am looking to sell this quickly and I will consider reasonable offers to end the auction early.  Timing is important, so please let me know how quickly you can close if you are making an offer for less than the buy-it-now price.  (The buy-it-now price provides the buyer 10 days to close.)

Here is the description that was provided by my friend:

ONE OF A KIND:  A full frame off restoration of a 1962 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with many upgrades to improve its performance on the road and off road as well like Roll Cage, Stereo, 4 disc brakes and more. Really care was taken in this restoration to maintain the value of this vehicle not only now if not in the future for the next owners as well.

Vehicle Description:            Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser 1962 with all the body parts taken apart and either sanded or sand blasted for better future rust prevention (primed, sealed and painted with DuPont premium quality paint), the whole frame was sanded and immediately primed and painted with Professional black color and restored. This vehicle was in excellent shape before restoration and in fact all the body is ORIGINAL (not aftermarket parts on it); however some parts needed to be cut to put new metal on it.  Undercarriage was completely black rubberized undercoated to prevent even more rust issues. Most of the bolts, washers and nuts were replaced for full threaded Stainless Steel, and all other bolt and nuts and pieces that we did not replace for stainless steel were restored, yellow plated or painted as well. New aluminum half doors and Custom made canvas top made with high quality Sunbrella material, water proof and UV protected. All the soft top frame was black powder coated matching the roll cage as well and front doors frames. Inside the body, it was used a Professional grade tintable spray in liner (not painted over) to give the vehicle a better look and even more rust protection. So, if you have a pet, no problem, you can carry him inside the vehicle without being afraid to scratch the paint. New marine upholstery on aftermarket front seats and rear folding bench seat. For better ride entertainment we installed a top of the line USB stereo and also marine speakers with awesome sound quality.

The engine: This is a great 6 cylinders Toyota 2F completely restored (not rebuilt) changing all the seals and gaskets to prevent future likings on it with New OEM carburetor on it. New gas hoses, gas filter, gas pump, oil sending unit, oil filter and also K&N air filter as well. New DUI high performance Distributor and spark plugs, new OEM oil cap, new Optima battery, OEM PCV valve and grommet, starter, alternator. The cooling system: Completely taken apart and cleaned out. New Antifreeze. New water pump, thermostat and gasket all OEM, new sending unit. New clamps all the way around. When restored, a new aluminum radiator was installed. Transmission completely inspected and topped off with new fluids as well as transfer case with new seals and gaskets. This vehicle has a 4 speed tranny with a 3 speed transfer case to higher torque in off road conditions.

Frame: Completely sanded and immediately primed and then painted with Professional black paint, new shocks, new tie rod ends, new bushings, completely rebuilt front and rear ends, steering stabilizer and more.  All brake system was restored with new rotors, calipers, pads and rear Disc Brakes as well. New lines, new Brake master cylinder, front Knuckles completely rebuilt with new bearing, seals and gaskets.  All clutch system with new disc, pressure plate, throughout bearing, pilot bearing, reground flywheel, new clutch master cylinder, new slave cylinder and OEM hose.

Inside:            The original wiring harness were cleaned out and reused keeping all original connections. Seats with new upholstery and restored. New side mirrors, New OEM emblems. New OEM pedal pads, new OEM hood rest pads, new battery tray and battery. It has a 17" American Racing Mohave wheels with all terrain BF Goodrich. Front Warn bumper and rear Kaymar off-road bumper and tire carrier.  A month ago the steering box was completely restored.  Over $45k spent on this restoration & upgrade.
