It's got the original engine- 327/365HP with the “461” double hump heads- a Muncie M-20 4-speed and 3.35 Posi rear end. The vin number/broch marks on the block look to be original and the cast date of the block is about 2 weeks prior. The trim tag and VIN tag say the car came from the factory- Glen Green with a Black interior. The other options were the back-up lights, day/night mirror and AM/FM radio. I’ve owned the car for 8+ years.
BODY - The front nose looks like it was repaired years back. No damage to the inner fender well-and the front fenders still have the original bonding strips. All the other body panels are assembly line originals. Doors open and close great / no sagging. The base coat/clear coat paint was sprayed in 2000. It has held up great for the years but has a couple scratches and chips but still has a great shine. Most think the paint is new. Bumpers are not ‘show”- but not scratched or bent and are original and shine up great. Headlights work great-both the motors were rebuilt.
INTERIOR - The dash pads are factory original parts without any cracks. The carpet was replaced in the past few years. When I bought the car in 2001- it still had the original door panels- they are in very good shape for 40+ years old. The seat covers look to be original also–have a few blemishes-but are great shape along w/ the original seat belts. The stainless steel trim pieces around the windshield are in excellent shape. All the gauges work except for the odometer and the clock will work some of the time. The power antenna goes up and down. The soft top is a few years old w/ new weather-stripping, fits great and looks even better.
CHASSIS - The “birdcage” is in excellent shape. The Muncie 4-speed has been rebuilt and has a vintage Hurst shifter. The clutch/disc/throwout/pilot bearing were all replaced when I had the engine out and gone through a couple years ago. Engine bay was detailed while the motor was out. I’ve just recently replaced the battery and starter plus the voltage regulator and alternator. The steering column was rebuilt w/ new bearings along w/ a new turn signal switch. There’s new suspension bushings, stainless steel brake calipers, shocks, etc have all been replaced in the past few years. The ball joints are still original and are in great shape. I replaced both engine compartment-wiring harnesses last year. The radiator is an original GM unit dated 1982. The hoses, belts, etc were replaced when the engine was out. It has original steel wheels w/ the original stainless steel hubcaps-the tires-BF Goodrich – are almost new. Spare tire tub is on car-in excellent shape w/ a spare tire on an original steel rim.
ENGINE - This car has the original engine installed from the factory. Some people like to say “matching numbers”- But I go a step further and say the same engine that came w/ the car when new. The original 327 had solid lifters-but sometime ago they were retrofitted w/ hydraulic lifters. It’s got the original “Winters” intake, aircleaner, valve covers, and ignition shielding. However, the carb is a replacement Holley 600cfm. I have a old correct 2818-1 carb sitting in a box (w/ new gasket kit) awaiting a rebuild. I’ve recently replaced the exhaust w/ undercar open chamber pipes.
FLAWS NOT MENTIONED ABOVE - The usual rain -water leaks, squeaks, rattles, and groans. Rather than replace parts on this car that were made in China- I’ve tried to keep the originals in great shape w/ some patina.
For the most part-I have NOT replaced parts w/ cheap shiny parts that did not originally come with the car when it was new, This car CAN be driven- We drove it a lot the past few years. It’s not a showcar (but has won a few local car shows)-but a very well preserved super clean original driver in excellent condition. No disappointments here.
Why am I selling? I have several other projects I need to finish- one being the finishing of my Corvette I’ve had since High School. Car IS subject to sale locally. I'll be glad to send Hi-res pics or show the car. |
