| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
66 912 Coupe Euro version VIN# 353234 Original Color# 6604 Light Ivory (now Gray) 1720cc big bore engine with great compression, service just completed 5 speed manual transmission Fuchs alloy wheels with near new Dunlop SP tires Factory front swaybar This is a perfect entry level Porsche 912, a car that runs very well so you will not be stuck with mechanical problems but also a car that has room for cosmetic improvement so you can have fun adding to it. This is a complete and original car with very little of the original equipment missing unlike most of the 912s for sale today. The car needs to be painted, as you can see in the pictures it looks good from 20 feet away but I do not want to mislead anyone as the paint is in poor condition. The body of this car is straight with no signs of major accidents. The trim on this car is very good – the chrome window frames and quarter windows look excellent. Interior has had some replacement items installed recently. A new headliner and carpet kit were installed. Front seats were re-padded and the rear seats were removed for the RS style light weight look but the rear seats are included with the car and can easily be reinstalled. RS style light weight door panels were also added to the car. Gauges look beautiful with all functions working from the speedo needle to the odometer, oil temp/fuel gauge/engine warning lights/tachometer all function well. Aftermarket 3 point inertia seat belts were added. The underside of the car looks very good, take
a look at the pictures. The body is not 100% rust free as I see a couple small
holes in a couple of the trouble areas. I hesitate in saying this because some people
may be concerned this could be a rusty car – which it is not. Still finding a
car that needs to be painted with no rust at all will be a very difficult task,
all the issues on this car can easily be taken care of when the car is painted. Mechanically the car feels very sound after its last service on 5/27/10. The engine is excellent - all the power it should have, starts everytime, no popping and burping from the carburetors, no smoke, no hesitations on acceleration like most other 912s out there. Looking under the engine you can see the 86mm big bore cylinders on this engine so the displacement is 1720cc. A valve job or top end rebuild has been done within the last few years, a compression test performed the other day proved the engine to be in excellent internal condition. The carburetors are the original Solex units in excellent shape. The distributor is a new RSR0012 distributor made specifically for 912 engines. See below for the work that was done. Transmission shifts well through all gears, no problems found in the transmission. The brake master cylinder has been upgraded to a new ATE 19mm unit, a safer dual circuit system. The 4 wheels disk brakes work well with no pulling. Suspension feels nice overall, the rear suspension spring plate bushing have been replaced recently. Receipts and recent work: Vintage Excellence - 5/27/10 Engine service- car arrived running poorly and leaking oil. Problems found – incorrect distributor, loose throttle linkage rods, carburetors leaking at intake manifold, spark plugs gap was to large, oil level over filled, incorrect generator pulley caused loose belt, bent oil sump plate caused leaks. Work performed – clean off engine, perform Compression test, replace VW distributor with John Benton’s RSR 0012 distributor for 912 (I love John's stuff). Remove carburetors and completely disassemble, chemical dip clean, resurface carburetor bases flat and reassemble carburetors, reinstall carburetors with proper spacer plates and gaskets, install new linkage rods to carburetors. Replace pulley half with correct new pulley. Replace bent oil sump cover which caused leaks. Oil change, oil filter, air filters, fuel filter, adjust valves, set timing, tune carburetors. Cost for this service: $ 900 Now the car runs like a champ! Compression test results: 1. 150psi 2. 153psi 3. 155psi 4. 155psi Very good compression numbers! I have an inch tall stack of receipts with the car; going through a few of them I noted the following but there is much more than is listed below: · Striker plates $138 · 3 point seatbelts $398 · Quarter window seals and wing window seals, headliner $288 · RS door panels $321 · Carpet kit $392 · 2 door stops, new pedal boards left & right $251 · Personalized Autohaus Inc – valve job with new valves, replace steering rack and tire rods + alignment, rebuild pedal assy, Brake service convert car to dual circuit master cylinder, replace inner and outer spring plate bushings $7570 · Dunlop tires $328 In summary this is a driver/project car. It needs cosmetic work more than anything. You could drive this car everyday if you wanted to. Mechanically sound and fun to drive.
