Overview on the 2001 Convette Z06:
Available only as a hardtop, the Z06 is easily identified from earlier hardtop models by the brake-cooling ducts ahead of the rear wheels, the screened air ducts in the front, wider, five-spoke wheels, red brake calipers and Z06 badges on the fenders. Inside, a specific Z06 instrument cluster adds to her appeal.

The Z06's suspension and brake package is worthy of the race track, and experienced drivers will appreciate being able to drive aggressively without the onboard computer assuming control has been lost. For the novice, Active Handling will help keep the driver out of trouble. The system has a "competitive mode" that allows the driver to disengage traction control without losing Active Handling.


The heart of the Z06 is the new aluminum-block 5.7L LS6. Rated at 385 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 385 lb-ft torque @ 4,800 rpm, the LS6's powerband comes on at lower rpm and pulls higher than the LS1. Much of this power results from the redesigned, higher-compression heads.


All Z06s come with the rugged new M12 short-shift six-speed manual gearbox that features higher ratios in all gears. The clutch, driveshaft and rear transaxle have all been beefed up to handle the LS6's additional torque.


Zero to sixty acceleration is 4.0 seconds and a blistering 12.6 seconds on the quarter mile. And for those stats fans - top speed is 171 mph, and the lateral acceleration is an astounding 1.03 g. The Z06 stands as one the fastest production Corvettes of all time.
