This auction is for a 1965 Ford Thunderbird convertible. This car was restored by my father about 10 years ago. Everything was completed before his death other than the new convertible top being installed a couple years back. With little adjustment this car could be a $60,000 or more show car.
My father was a perfectionist. His cars continuously won first place trophies and prizes in concourse at the shows. He was the President of Cowtown T-Birds and very respected in the Thunderbid enthusiast community. I would never part with this car other than I can not give it the proper time and shelter it deserves. This car has been garage kept until the last couple weeks.
Please note that in this listing when I refer to something as new I mean it was brand new 10 years ago when it was restored, other than the top. Please also note that I am no expert on cars in any way, shape, or form. All I know is what I learned by helping/watching my father. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them. I will do my best to describe the car in detail. I will probably make it sound worse than it really is because I want to note any damage, but the car is in really great shape and needs very little to be shown or driven daily.
This beautiful car is maroon (burgundy) with maroon (burgundy) interior and black top. All bumpers and chrome have been re-chromed and in great shape. The interior is in excellent shape with exception to the dash which cracked in one spot two weeks ago when it was moved from the garage to the outdoor sunlight, stupidity on my part. There is also some paint chipped on the kick panel covers where they were removed to access the fuse box. The motor is a rebuilt Ford 390 ci with 9 miles on it. The motor runs strong. The 3 speed automatic transmission is also rebuilt. I have noticed no leaks. We have driven it around the block a couple times. The car runs and drives really good considering it has been garaged for 10 years. Everything was new or original and rebuilt on this car. It has power windows, power door locks, sliding steering wheel, a/c, power steering, and power brakes.
The paint is in good shape with exception to some scratches on the bottom passenger side door which occurred in storage. The paint has also flaked around the driver's side mirror. I was told the mirror came loose in transit from Texas and chipped the paint in that spot. I am including pictures of these areas. Other than this I believe a good buffing or waxing would wake up the paint.
It also has wire wheels but the center caps are not installed and may not be correct. I can not get them on, but will send them with the car in case they can be exchanged for the correct ones, if they are indeed different. Tires are still in like new shape and still have the "new tire nobbies". The radio does not work at the present time. I believe it to be a fuse because it did work when he installed it. Also some of the lights are not working at the moment, yet they were working before and new sequentials were installed. I also believe it to be a fuse and will have this checked before the weekend. The convertible top can be temperamental as they all are at this age. Sometimes it doesn't want to drop the deck lid after the top is put back up and sometimes it does fine.
There is a clear North Carolina title on this baby. This car is sold as is, where is and no warranties are implied. If you would like to inspect the car before auction end please contact us. The car can be viewed in Casar, North Carolina by appointment.
