Description

1965 Chevrolet Corvette Race Car

Welcome to Straight Line Automotive Group, one of America's premier marketers of high-line and luxury automobiles on eBay Motors. The lucky winner of this auction will have the opportunity to own this low mileage 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Race Car.

The Ex-Ron Glick Multi-Championship Car 450bhp at 7,200 rpm, 327 cu. in. V8 engine with Rochester fuel injection, Muncie M-21 four-speed transmission with a Posi-traction rear end, Dick Guldstrand type front and rear suspensions and J-56 HD four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 98"

After a decade of production for the classic but outdated live-axle Corvette model, the factory
pulled out all the stops to present the brand new Corvette of 1963.

A beautiful, new body - for the first time available as both a coupe and a roadster - presented the most obvious improvement. Borrowing nothing from the design of any other car, either foreign or domestic, this unique Stingray show-car-inspired design still looks as fresh and exciting today as it did at the time of its introduction 46 years ago.

Underneath a redesigned, much stiffer chassis with independent rear suspension (by now de rigeur for any automobile of sporting pretensions) offered vastly improved handling over its solid axle predecessor. Under the direct influence of three of the titans of General Motors, Bill Mitchell and Larry Shinoda in styling and Zora Arkus-Duntov in engineering, it is no wonder that this Corvette came out right.

Before the new Stingray even appeared in the show rooms of the nation, enterprising road racers like Dick Guldstrand, Bob Bondurant, Allen Grant and Davy MacDonald had them on the track. By the mid 1960s, Corvettes powered by the immortal 327 Chevrolet V8 were regular national winners in the Sports Car Club of America..s B-Production class. The sensational looks and a decided aero advantage made the Stingray coupes of the 1963 to 1967 period an appealing choice for an aspiring S.C.C.A. club racer.

EARLY HISTORY OF THE NO. 25 CORVETTE
The Fuelie Coupe offered here was purchased new by Ron Glick of Akron, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania as a late 1965 production car and its first season of Pennsylvania hill climb competition took place in 1966. It was subsequently raced through the remainder of the 1960s as a B Production car in SCCA. Many wins and FTDs were recorded in 1968 and 1969. It should be noted that in this period the hill climb series was extremely competitive and featured top SCCA drivers including Hal Keck, George Wintersteen and Oscar Koveleski. Campaigned into the 1970s, Ron captured the points championship in 1971 through 1974. The car also won the SCCA Northeast Division Solo I Series in 1970, 1971 and 1974.

Numerous road race victories and podium finishes were recorded in the 1970s as car number 25 ran at all the prominent East Coast road race venues including Nelson Ledges, Pocono, Lime Rock, Bridgehampton, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta. The final race was in 1978 at the Glen SCCAUSRRC Super National. In a field of 49 cars, Ron Glick captured fifth overall and second in class " two positions in front of a certain P.L. Newman in his CP Datsun! Prospective purchasers are advised to review the race results, period photos
and log books that accompany the sale.

A NEW LIFE IN HISTORIC RACING WITH THE SECOND OWNER
The number 25 Corvette was purchased by the current owner from Ron Glick, through an intermediary in 1990. During the full restoration, original equipment was refitted and safety features upgraded. The car retains its original roll bar, stamped 92-046, indicating the SCCA Susquehanna Region. Actively campaigned in vintage events since 1991 and in HMSA and General Racing events since 1992, it has raced at Coronado, Wine Country/Sears Point and Monterey Historics from 1993 to 2000.

The car retains its stock body panels and the chassis has its original supplemental gusseting and a full period Guldstand suspension with solid bushings, offset trailing arms, front spreader, HD anti sway bar, rear sway bar, J-56 HD brakes with correct vacuum booster, cooling ductwork and carbon Kevlar pads. It has 15 X 7 inch Minilite type alloy wheels and a large capacity custom fuel cell in the original location. The engine has a correct Rochester fuel injection and intake/distributor (rebuilt and race prepared by Brian Futo) on a fresh, HMSA certified 327 with fuel injection headers. It features a Callies steel crank, Eagle rods, Moroso splayed main caps, 12.7:1 pistons and 30/30 cam. All engine work was performed by Dan Nelson of Jett Performance. The transmission is a Muncie M-21, rebuilt by Indy crew chief Chuck Buckman and is mated to a Centerforce clutch and
alloy flywheel. The rear end has a Posi-traction center carrier, HD output shafts and a Smart Strut with heim-jointed control arms. The interior includes original door panels, dash
instruments, roll-up windows, Halon fire system and a glove box signed by Roger Penske, Zora Arkus-Duntov and Dick Guldstrand (Palm Springs, 1992 Corvette Anniversary).

This beautifully restored racing Corvette incorporates every desirable aspect of such a car " great coupe styling, fuel injection, fully documented championship history, period correct racing specifications and is eligible for all the best historic racing venues on the planet.

Please note that period photographs, current photos, copies of log books, race reports, etc., are available in the office and accompany the purchase of this car.

We welcome any pre-buy inspections before purchase and offer free airport pick-up from either Dallas Love Field or DFW International Airport. Affordable bonded and insured shipping is available. Thank You for visiting another Straight Line Automotive Group Auction exclusively on eBay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Straightline Automotive Group get its cars?

Straightline Automotive Group gets its cars from a variety of sources. Our cars are almost always franchise dealership trade-ins and/or lease returns. We have relationships with over 100 dealerships and brokers and buy only the highest quality pre-owned cars. A typical scenario is one in which a dealer obtains a car through a trade-in and that dealer is neither a specialist or is not allowed to sell a particular make of car. They call us, (we are not a local competitor), and we purchase the vehicle from them and make the car available online to a national market.

Can I have the car mechanically inspected?

It is our absolute mission for you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase. Straightline Automotive Group allows full pre-buy inspection of all its vehicles from any inspection service you desire. For your convenience, Straightline Automotive Group recommends the two following automotive inspection firms: MobileWorks 972-955-7894 &  The Auto Critic 972-386-8388. Both independent companies offer thorough and honest inspections.  You can contact them directly to schedule an inspection. We also recommend and do offer extended warranties.

What can I expect from my purchase?

You can expect great service, a great price and an impeccable car. We aim to describe the car as accurately as possible. We do offer only pre-owned vehicles and by definition our vehicles are not brand new. Most of our offerings are equal to first line vehicles sold in reputable franchised dealerships across the country. In fact, many of these dealers buy our inventory only to turn around and sell it at much higher prices. It is important when buying a used vehicle to understand that it is not brand new - it has been driven a certain number of miles.

I am out-of-town, how will I get the car?

Straightline Automotive Group uses a fully bonded and insured transportation service that will deliver the vehicle to your door. The transport usually takes about 10 days and costs around $750 depending on your location. Vehicle delivery usually take between 1 and 2 weeks. We also welcome you to come to us. Many customers book a flight into Dallas Love Field or DFW Airport. Should you choose this option, we'll be glad to pick you up from the airport.

This is only possible if the request is made within 24 hours of receiving the vehicle and the vehicle has been driven less then 50 miles of what it had when it left Straight Line.

Straight Line Automotive reserves the right to obtain and verify the registered information of all users who bid on this auction, cancel any and all bids at our discretion, or end the auction early if necessary.

These vehicles are USED vehicles and are not new. Please expect a certain amount of wear, use, and flaws, as is standard on ANY used car. All used cars including this one may have dings, nicks, chips, scratches and any other marks that are associated with use consistent with age and mileage of the vehicle. Obviously, a car that is 10 years old will show more wear and have more flaws than one that is 2 years old. While we try to service any known defects it is still possible for used vehicles to need service or repairs the first days or weeks of ownership. NOT likely, but possible! Since these vehicles are used, please remember that books, extra keys, remote entry keys, CD cartridges, etc..., do not always remain with vehicles throughout their life. We will not be responsible for these minor accessories. These items are all replaceable at any local factory dealer or right here on eBay for a few dollars. We strongly recommend that all buyers purchase the optional extended warranty. This will help defray the cost of mechanical repairs, if any, in the future
