1963 PASSENGER CAR AND CORVETTE METALLIC BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER-NOS

Up for auction is an ORIGINAL 1963 Master Cylinder for either a Biscayne, Belair, Impala or Z-11 with the factory Metallic brake option (RPO J65) -OR- 1963 Corvette (exc. Z-06 brakes). Chevrolet Part Number 5462385. Casting number 5462389. This is an original Delco-Moraine master cylinder for the above applications (with or without P/B). It has a 7/8^th in. bore as cast on the front snout.

New units, when included with a Bendix P/B booster as a Service Part for dealer installation were painted all black. This unit shows evidence of being installed on a P/B booster, but there is no evidence of it being used. Some of the original assembly lube is visible in the reservoir, under the lid and on the rear of the piston. (the brown you see is lube; not rust or dried brake fluid).

The piston moves freely and smoothly. The lid has some minor dings on the edge that will need to be straightened. (or you can purchase a reproduction lid). I removed the black paint from the lid pieces to verify that they have their original finishes and confirm that this piece is truly NEW. The lid gasket is the original and is soft and subtle.

The date code is K232 (or Nov. 23rd 1962) The lid has the small font on the stamping which is the most common for ’63 usage. This unit has no bleeder valve and no hole for one. I've never seen an original with a bleeder.
