My 944S and I had a great run together, but economics demand that I sell it rather than do needed engine repair. Here’s the story:
Condition: Vehicle is 100% stock with addition of short shifter. Very good condition--not concours but very clean, minor road rash on hood and cowl and other minor blemishes--no rust. Interior virtually perfect--original dash . . . no cracks, no upholstery tears, all electrical and mechanical in good working order.
But . . . the Achilles Heel of the water-cooled Porsche 944--the timing belt, water pump, pulleys assembly failed this fall. Car will not start and needs one or all of the above replaced. Valve job is also likely needed for this “interference engine.”
Until this incident, car was in excellent running order--completely functional and an absolute joy to drive.
Car can sell as-is, or if interested and serious buyer wants, I will take care of engine repair to return to excellent running order. If I repair, I’ll arrange for serious buyer to interview my mechanic to confirm car’s history and condition.

Repair & Maintenance history since spring 2008: New Sumitomo tires, Front struts, Rear shocks, Brakes (cross drilled rotors, pads, calipers), Brake fluid flush, Power steering hose, Tune-up w/ignition wires, Left motor mount, Fuel pressure regulator, and other minor work.
Previous owner major repair history: Timing belt at 65,000 miles, clutch at 73,000 miles. I have all repair records since car was put into service. Since the beginning, this car has been very well maintained with all service schedules being observed (paperwork trail to prove it).
Terms of sale: Cashier’s checks from established bank required for down payment and final sale. No warranty/guarantee on as-is. For repaired sale, mechanic will provide his standard warranty.
Price: Reasonable reserve price. Repairs estimated between $3,000 and $4,000 in Chicago area, depending upon specifics of repair.
