1959 Chevrolet Corvette
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Up for auction is a prized family heirloom for many years. 1959 Corvette numbers matching. Inca silver with silver coves, black soft-top. Vinyl Red and white interior trim. The drive train is a 283ci, 230hp, single four barrel. Three speed manual transmission. Positraction rear axle 370 ratio. This Corvette would be a nice driver, very deserving of a professional restoration. From 5 feet away this car looks new, but lets be realistic, it is 50 years old. I wouldn't be afraid to sell this car to my next-door-neighbor or best friend. You could get in this car and drive 15 hours to Florida with no concerns. Since this is a numbers matching car with low mileage, I don't think anyone would do that. This car was kept in a heated, a/c garage for most of its life. I'm 44 years old and my father owned this car long before I was driving. It was in a multi-car collection that he started to sell. The car was put into my name in 2000. The car was not driven, but pushed in and out of the garage for 28 years. When I took possession, it had sat for so long even though nothing was stuck, I wanted to feel safe in the car so I invested $7,000 and many long nights bringing this car to what I felt was a safe, road-worthy condition. I could try to list each item involved in the $7000 but that would take far too long. I can tell you this in short, from the flywheel to the rear wheels everything has been serviced & inspected to ensure originality, durability, and drivability. Fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, carburator have all been gone over as well as the radiator, water pump,& cooling system. My initial goal was to make sure the car was reliable before I started getting to the cosmetics. I was told by my father who owns a car lot that when he took possession of this car, the right front fender and hood had been burned. I never saw the car prior to the condition you see in the listing photos. There are photos of some heat bubbling on the passenger seat and right corner of the dash. The seat covers in a 59 Corvette, the pleats are horizontal. As you can see from the photos, the pleats in these seat covers are vertical, so it is my belief that the seat covers aren't original and I would replace them anyway. The only other evidence of fire is on the upper cowel under the hood, passenger side. When the car was repaired, the technician tried to repair the fiberglass around the heater box hole, it doesn't look factory and would need some fiberglass work. There is no radio or heater presently in the car. This car has low miles which is reflected on the title. The title is clear and in hand. I have not listed the exact mileage because in fairness I have never seen a Corvette on EBay with mileage this low. Since I have taken possession of the car, it hasn't been driven but once or twice a year to car shows. On my last drive the speedometer needle started to bounce from one side to the other. Before I could get home, the needle popped off and is in the cluster. The car has not been out since because I want to protect the integrity of the mileage. I have had thoughts of taking the speedometer out and having it repaired but 50 years of fading, all the gauge faces match and everyone who restores antique speedometers wants to bring it back to new condition and then it would not match. So the car has not been out and I haven't driven it. I do start the car and move it around in the driveway so things don't start to stick. I don't have time to work on the car and it just sits, which I think is a shame...someone should be enjoying this car. Buy this car to drive the way it is or if you're looking for a car to restore, it is all here, numbers matching. Bid with confidence, check my feedback. Call with questions at 513-607-7148.
