1969 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Up for sale is a Cortez Silver 1969 Corvette that came from the GM factory with a 427 big block Chevrolet engine in it, "RPO L36", the mileage showing on the odometer is 84555. I've owned this car for about 25 years now; it has always been in Monterey County. The casting number on the block is 3963512, the date is A 27 9 = January 27th 1969. This is the original GM engine this car came with from the factory in 69. The factory aluminum trim tag reads: "Chevrolet H07" (March 7th 1969) the actual build date of this Corvette, "Trim 402" is the black interior and "986 Paint;" which is the Cortez Silver color that is on it now.
It still has the factory installed Muncie 4 Speed in it with the correct VIN number stamped on the side of the case. The original 621 bell housing is still in the car. The Muncie 4 speed transmission has the following numbers on it: Main Case 3925660, Tail Housing 3857584, Side cover 3950306 and the factory metal tag 3946798. The date code on the side of the Muncie is P9C03B = March 3rd 1969. The transmission shifts like it did when it was brand new. (It was just rebuilt and it has a new Centerforce clutch assembly in it). It has its original factory installed positraction differential. The numbers on the bottom of the housing are 2AZ3 3 69 = March 1969.
Mechanically this car is solid; it runs great and drives straight down the highway. This Vette is still painted the original color, but it is not the factory paint job. This Corvette is one of the few that came from the factory with a telescoping tilt steering column and it still has the original black steering wheel on it and the horn works. The black leather interior is in great condition, with normal wear and it is not torn anywhere. The original GM seat belts are in the car, and they are fully functional.
It still has both of its original California DMV issued 1969 "black and yellow" license plates on it. It has a clear California title and registration. It also appears that the original date coded factory installed glass is still in the car. VIN on driver door hinge post (A-post): #194379Sxxxxxx 1- Chevrolet Division 94- Body Series Corvette 37- Coupe 9 - 1969 S - Assembled in St. Louis, Missouri
The total production of the 1969 Corvette was 38,762. Of those 16,633 were convertibles and the total number of coupes were 22,129. Below is the list of options and the number of cars that came equipped with each of these options: A01- soft ray tinted glass, all windows 31,270 A31- Power Windows 9,860 G81- Positraction Rear Axle 3:08 36,965 J50 - Power Brakes 16,876 M20 - 4 speed Manual Transmission 16,507 N37 - Tilt Telescopic Steering Column 10,325 N40 - Power steering 22,866
Both of the doors open and close perfectly, and are aligned properly, another indication that this Corvette has not been hit hard, if at all.
This is a very clean California Corvette that has spent most of its life in a garage, so there is no rust on the frame, birdcage or anywhere else. It does not appear to have ever been wrecked. In other words all of the factory bonding strips appear to be intact, and there does not appear to be any aftermarket fiberglass panels installed on the car. I don't have a tank sticker or any documentation but I am willing to sign an affidavit that states that the engine, transmission, and differential are all the original components that were originally installed in this Corvette at the GM factory in March of 1969, due to the build date of the car "H07" being March 7th 69, the differential date stamp "2AZ3" 3 69 = March 1969, the date code on the side of the Muncie is P9C03B = March 3rd 1969 and the date code cast into the engine block is A 27 9 = January 27th 1969. I've confirmed with GM that this Corvette was born a 390 HP 427 car, in 1969 through their V.I.N. verification or “SPAC” process. If you would you like to type this up, I'll have it notarized. That is the best I can do, and when you see this Corvette you will be able to tell that it has not been rebuilt or restored recently, if ever. The interior looks like it was assembled at the GM factory 40 years ago and with the exception of the aftermarket radio it is virtually untouched.
