This is a NOS original 1961 Chevrolet CORVETTE Printer's Advertisement PROOF printed by Chevrolet's ad agency, Campbell-Ewald, for internal review. Not only was it never mailed and never folded (there are no creases), but this is another step scarcer than an already rare ad proof....this one's a printer's proof. It was still printed by Campbell-Ewald, but is much larger than a regular ad proof at 13 3/4 x 21" and includes the printer color bars at the bottom. These bars were used for quality control, to maintain the standard color balance.

All proofs were printed on the best quality paper and print quality was optimum so that management could see how the ad would look at its best. This proof was prepared specifically for use in for New Yorker magazine and is imprinted with their proof standards (Conde-Nast) under the color bars. It came from the estate of a Campbell-Ewald executive. The title reads "excitement is standard equipment!"

The photo shows an Ermine White Vette parked beside a 1927 Bugatti which is mentioned in the text. The text is makes the point that the Corvette has all the Bugatti's performance along with the creature comforts the Bug lacked. In the lower right corner there's the Campbell-Ewald logo, ad number (61-CH-31A) and a list of the two magazines in which the ad ran in March 1961: New Yorker and Sports Illustrated.

The proof has moisture wrinkle in the left half of the ad but it wouldn't be too noticeable if the proof was framed. There are two very small tears on the left edge with a crease between them. There are no folds, fading, stains or marks. This is a beautiful proof and quite possibly the only one in existence.

This rare proof will be a great addition to any Corvette literature or memorabilia collection, or will be an attention getter when displayed with your Vette!
