Up for your auction bids today is this 1968 Mopar B-bdy 26" 2-core-deep radiator, part # of 2898 041 on top tank. As used originally in such popular models as Chargers, Coronets, and Satelites that had the 318 motor, air conditioning, and automatic transmission. This radiator has the square-top tanks, very similar (other than part # and inlet and outlet locations) to what the big-block 1968-70 Mopars radiators looked like. Believe the mounting brackets to body and for shroud have the same holes as the big block cars too. Mounting holes to body, are approx. 28" across (center to center). Right (passenger ) side holes are approx. 10-1/2" top to bottom apart. Left (drivers) side mounting holes are approx. 14 1/2" top to bottom, center to center of holes. Shroud mounting studs have 3 studs on left side and 2 studs on the right (passenger) side. This radiator has been stored away for many, many years.
Featured radiator looks to be in pretty decent shape for a 42- model-year old piece! Top tank is a very good piece. No bad dents, or corossion. Looking inside neck of radiator, the tubes and interior of tank look pretty clean inside. Not all dirty and plugged looking. All side mounting brackets are also undamaged and unmodified. Good studs for shroud attachment. Bottom tank has a slight (a few inch long) dent, or depression (see last picture). Pretty minor, but noticeable if you look from underneath car. No sign of any cracks or holes in tanks. All hose attaching flanges are nice. Core is nice and solid. Fins are not rotted out, just a few here and there that are bent some. Many could be straigtened out some with a little detailing effort. The lower part of core has some slight grease/oil on it (see darker lower areas in pictures) from off car's motor originally, I believe, but with a degreaser and a pressure washing or boiling out treatment, think it would clean up nice. Get a pressure checking done, then repaint it, and it would likely be a very nice piece, suitable for most higher level condition cars. With a changing of location of inlet and outlet locations , this could be converted to a big block V-8 radiator, at a price a lot cheaper than what original big block V-8 Mopar radiators go for. Has provision for transmission cooler lines. If you have a manual transmission, you should just be able to put some plugs in these spots.
Don't miss this fairly rare piece if your car is missing this, or you want to increase your cooling capacity up from the normal 22"-wide radiator. This is also an inexpensive piece to make a big block conversion to. While core / tanks look very good, and likely should be fine, due to their age and originality, I cannot warranty them against any possible leakage. Hope you understand. Please pressure test and clean radiator before any useage or restoration/finishing work proceeds. Thanks alot for stopping by to look and bid! Contact me with any questions you have. Happy bidding!
