Hand Blown one of a kind Glass Calligraphy Inspired Vase 5" x 4" x 14 " tall $450.00 value
flattened on two sides, round foot.
This
beautiful glass vase starts with a base color of opaque yellow glass.
To this a thin layers white powdered glass creates an background defusing
the yellow, creating more depth of surface.
Sprinkles of aventurine gold, Iris yellow frit glass are added to create a metaphor
of droplets of light reflecting off the shimming glass surface. The
last step is created with two overlapping colors. The Colors are heated to a
very hot and loose consistency. It must be applied with strength and directness
but with looseness and subtlety, as a touch of calligraphy brush is applied to
paper that reveals the true nature of all materials, energy and intention
coming together. Kaiser Red is applied
first, Cobalt blue glass is added contrasting the red and the two colors dance
on the surface. The final steps
are to flatted the form, add the foot, open the lip just enough.

Artist Statement
I am an artist and an educator exploring visual connections
to glass. I search to find pause to the significance of glass in bringing
beauty to our lives, and connect the historical evolution of glass to visual
language. Much of my work is cast or sculpted off hand and mixed with other
materials that bring their own histories of evolution. One group of work
reflects on Buddhism. This body of work references elements primarily found
with in the Tibetan Mahayana tradition.
Practice, devotion, meditation, symbolism, is means that are used to
make connections with established visual elements and specific Buddhist
iconographic metaphor to reach out with a context of visual language that may
bridge the gap between philosophy and understanding. This has become a means of
personal infusion of art and philosophical exploration a metaphor that is not
intended for the audience though it is part of the work none the less.
Apart from my sculptural work, I love to make objects; form,
color, expression through many glass working techniques, Hot and cold. I have
been very interested in finding ways of adding imagery directly to the hot
surface using dichotic flat glass and various glass paints, and fired on gold
luster that are represented in the work being offered.
