Jade Green Hand Blown , Hand Painted ,  Glass  Vase with gold leaf and gold luster           5" wide  x  11 3/4" tall          $450.00value

Here my intention is to use the tradition of Chines painting  to capture the sense  natures splendor.

This hand blown glass vase With Jade green color and black lip wrap required many hours and multiple firings to achieve the desired affects. Firstly, during the initial blowing process gold foil was encased with in the molten glass layer. Once cooled, specialized glass paints were applied to the surface, each color allowed to dry and then additional layering. Then the glass is heated in a kiln and reintroduced to the pipe and heated to a point where the vase form is once again fluid and moving. The glass paints have now become completely harmonious with  the surface. After the second cooling gold luster is applied to the surface of the vessel and again the vase is returned to the kiln for the final firing. The third cooling reveals the contrast of the painted surface as the gold catches the light, and the contrasting gold foil lightly filters from the background.

  Artist Statement

I am an artist and an educator exploring visual connections to glass. I search to find pause to the significance of glass in bringing beauty to our lives, and connect the historical evolution of glass to visual language. Much of my work is cast or sculpted off hand and mixed with other materials that bring their own histories of evolution. One group of work reflects on Buddhism. This body of work references elements primarily found with in the Tibetan Mahayana tradition.  Practice, devotion, meditation, symbolism, is means that are used to make connections with established visual elements and specific Buddhist iconographic metaphor to reach out with a context of visual language that may bridge the gap between philosophy and understanding. This has become a means of personal infusion of art and philosophical exploration a metaphor that is not intended for the audience though it is part of the work none the less.

Apart from my sculptural work, I love to make objects; form, color, expression through many glass working techniques, Hot and cold. I have been very interested in finding ways of adding imagery directly to the hot surface using dichotic flat glass and various glass paints, and fired on gold luster that are represented in the work being offered.
