This is a high quality color corrected, or achromatic jeweler's loupe with three lenses. Single lens magnifiers produce significant spherical aberration and longitudinal color. That means that the image is distorted around the edges, and the color is not right. These problems can be corrected in multiple element magnifiers. The use of more than one lens, such as in this triplet 18mm magnifier with three lenses increases the field of vision and reduces the spherical aberration. This means that the spot that you look at in the middle of the magnifier that is in focus is larger and less distorted around the edges. This is an achromatic magnifier and the color correction this magnifier has means that what you are looking at is the same color as if seen by the eye in natural light. Color correction is very important to Gemologists. Ten power is the standard magnification by which diamonds and other stones are judged. The magnifier has a brown matte finish hand sewn leather case.it has a metal cut built into the magnifier so it can be hung around the neck on a cord.And the lens is protected by sliding it into the built in metal protector,also has a rubberized grip protective cover around the exterior of the lens.
