....THERE IS NO RESERVE IN THIS AUCTION..... ....The top photo is just to show these bottles in a typical display... The other  items are NOT part of this auction...

THIS SEA-WASHED BOTTLE WOULD BE A TERRIFIC ADDITION TO ANY DECOR USING FISHING NETS, FLOATS, BUOYS OR OTHER NAUTICAL ITEMS... It's very old [ mid 1800s ] and quite heavy glass... The bottle was hand blown into a cast iron mold.. Its just under 10" long... The thick glass has bubbles and swirls throughout... These heavy old bottles were selected for ship's ballast , being refilled again and again because of the rounded bottom.... This discouraged the sailors from pilfering them while at sea because they couldn't stand them upright.... These were filled with either fresh or aerated water before the ship left for sea... Then they were packed in straw and laid in the prow of the ship as ballast... As the fresh water was consumed it was replaced with salt water... Thus the ballast remained the same throughout the journey.... The ones I'm offering were recovered from an early wreck in Boston Harbor in the 1940s by a hard hat commercial diver while working there... I got them from him in the 1960s. ... When found these will often be scratched, chipped, and hazy from being on the ocean bottom [ The same as a piece of sea glass ].... leaving a pleasant "sea glass" appearance.... This fine maritime or marine relic would be a compliment to any boat, yacht, sail or sailing atmosphere..... It would work in any nautical decor to do with diving, salvage, whaling, the ocean or the sea....
