It is one of many rare rugs that I offer and it is truly a masterpiece. It was completed a couple of years ago and shipped to me as soon as it was finished. These metal rugs are among the finest and most valuable rugs and are extremely rare. Due to my direct contacts with the weavers in Tabriz, I'm able to request a couple of them every once in a while and there are not a whole lot of sellers anywhere that even offer these type of rugs. Back in April, I had about 8 different pieces with this rare combination of metal and silk/cotton, and most of them are already sold. Metal rugs are very difficult to make since the hair-thin metal fibers are added to the cotton foundation thorughout the whole rug,and only a few weavers have the skills to make such pieces. The close-up picture above shows the way the metal is added and it is much easier to show than to describe.

These type of rugs are designed to be showpieces and with some proper lighting can look absolutely amazing. You should hear what my clients think about these pieces. This is a full 50 raj quality Tabriz rug, meaning that it has a cotton foundation and lots of silk in the highlights of the pile. Also, unlike standard rugs, these metal rugs are made with to show off the metal in the foundation and as a result, only 50% of the rug has a pile. This is designed to surround the pile with the metal foundation and it gives it a very unique and elegant look. Lots of silk is added to the pile and it is a very high end Tabriz rug designed for a formal area.  I have seen a couple in stores and they sell them for two to three times as much.
